But government is the entity that allows it.
Here't the thing about markets...the freer they are, the more important quality, service and price become. When you can buy politicians to force people out of the marketplace and discourage new ones from entering, then those other qualities just don't carry the same importance in order to gain a profit. Political influence is easier than constant improvement.
The ONLY way "greed" is rewarded in a free market is if you are supplying a product/service that the public wants at a price they are willing to pay.
I own a small business and I can be "greedy" all day long. That doesn't put food on my table. Producing a service customers are willing to pay for does. So, my "greed" has led me to have LOWER prices than the big boys and BETTER customer service.
I can tell you first hand how government is limiting my ability to give those same savings and better service to people in Orlando and Metairie (it's limiting my "greed"). And I'm positive my story isn't a rare one.
I'm glad your small business is doing well. But I worry for you if a big business tries to invade your area. Yes, you may not be too greedy and can keep your costs low, most other small businesses have problems with this cause they are having to compete with the big guys. But it may come a day when they do, and they can afford to pay bottom level employees just a dollar or two more than you can and people go to work there instead.
The Government isn't forcing this, people are in the long run... For you as a small business owner you probably can't afford to pay your customers much more than you do or supply them with a healthcare plan and keep the lifestyle you have. So, what will you do if you're forced to do this, raise prices, cut hours, etc. That's your greed that is making that happen, but as a small business owner I don't think it's probably your fault... If you are having to compete with the big boys, you really don't have much of a choice.
The big businesses need to be capped on raising prices and forced to provide medical care and the percentage of items and materials they buy from overseas needs to regulated. Small businesses need to either be supported in providing healthcare, or their employees receive it for an amount they can afford in some way.
The problem with this is it could probably end us up in a war with China...
There's more I'm positive I don't know and haven't thought about.. and I don't think I have all the answers and the ones I posted above probably have holes. But as American's we need to be paying our employee's more (or lower our prices), managing them better to make sure they are worth their salt, and giving them raises when they deserve it. We also need to try and buy american (not just the name brand or the store, but where the stuff they get to make it comes from), support small business, and in general be less greedy, less wasteful, better managers of our budget, and quit buying shite we don't fricking need.
You also blame the government for all this, but the government was elected... we need to elect people that aren't greedy, aren't willing to be influenced, and will make better decisions... People are lazy when it comes to politics, especially the poor... they don't have time to think about it or don't understand it. And there are plenty of rich that fall into that same category. Politicians are greedy too, but in the end they are people we elected... So, maybe we shouldn't have elected them.
Also, if we would quit caring about things that really don't affect us like gay marriage, evolution, or abortion... we might have time to worry about some more important shite.
And on top of that... if people would teach their kids to work harder and pay attention in school, schools weren't required to raise children, and if someone actually taught business and politics better we might be better off as well.
And on top of that, if people wouldn't get SO GOD DAMN OFFENDED if you disagree with them and listen to things involving religion and politics, we might actually find a fricking solution.

The government is not to blame... I'm tired of people blaming the government... the issues America faces are almost unfixable by the government... It's gonna take a change in mindset by everyone.
What escapes you is the simple fact that the people elect the politicians. The politicians draft up the legislation that impacts our lives; hence, the "mindset" you speak of has precipitated the election of the politicians and their legislation that now impacts your life. You can blame the people - Lord knows I do - but to hold the politicians completely blameless is perplexing to me as the people and the politicians (and the legislation they draft) are completely intertwined.
