Take the benefits you have coming to you, just don't tell anyone. Don't be silly, they are there to help people in times of need.

That's the thing, it's not a time of need.. it's the way of life... Finding a solution to get people off welfare is pretty much impossible outside of becoming somewhat communist or living under a dictatorship... or just letting people die.. that's always a option

People need to get themselves off welfare.

Dude. Seriously. You think you're the only person who has ever been down before? Wallow in your misery for all I care, but your reason to come here is clear; you're looking for something or someone to blame other than yourself.

As someone who has been there, I am offering you pearls of wisdom. Drop the bitterness and lashing out. Examine yourself. It isn't pretty and it is very hard to be truthful. Most people are blind to their own shortcomings, kind of like not seeing the dirty carpet until you move the furniture.

I wish you well and hope you find a new position, soon, that pays you according to your abilities and value.

What would Thomas Jefferson do? Whatever he would do, do that.

Possibly, shits confusing.. I went to sign up and it told me I wasn't available for it and to sign up for medicaid... which also said I wasn't available for it, and to look into a private plan...

Then for god's sake please explain it to me... I'll even pay you $40 if you can find me the right health care plan to use that I can afford.

Dude you are out of luck, you needed to figure this all out by the deadline.

Of course there is another option. Change jobs. That qualifies as a life changing event and you can buy a health plan.

It's really not that complicated and I don't know wjhat you want explained.

Alabama has nothing to do with availability of Obamacare. States can choose to run their own exchanges, or have the Federal Government do it. Either way healthcare exchange programs are there.

At $8.50/hr, you absolutely qualify for an exchange subsidy if you don't qualify for Medicaid.

Depending on a couple of factors, it sounds like you are above Medicaid qualified income. If I were you, I would contact the ACA helpline, and let a worker there move you through the process.

If you aren't pregnant or a kid... medicaid is pretty much null and void in Alabama...

So here's the deal.
You DO qualify for a subsidy, assuming facts of the OP. Eurocat's point is valid though. If you missed the deadline without an interceding qualifying event, you won't be able to participate in the exchange before the Fall, and you may get tagged with a tax penalty to boot.

Back to your point though.
Apparently you were misled by someone associated with the ACA. It happens.

Recontact them. Set up an appointment in person if necessary, and work it out.

Oh... I'm about to start claiming some major taxes that the gov't says I deserve... I'm also about to lead others in doing the same.
