Made the switch, now what are some apps to get?

Made the switch to Samsung from Apple. I installed lookout and clean master. Are those legit virus protection/cleanup apps? Is there something better?
Also, I'm having trouble getting text from the sheep. They've deleted my contact info and put it back and their text won't go through to me. What's the remedy?
ETA: just interested in apps to protect the phone or some cool widgets, not games.

I had text problems when I first got my samsung. I called my service provider and the walked me thru a few steps. Shut my phone down, they did something on their end and turned my phone back on and the problems were gone.

ETA: why are you trying to justify the switch by calling Apple users "sheep"? It's obviously a common thing for android users, but I couldn't care less what phone other people have.

Smart man, time for you to see what the sheep are missing.

For protection I use my security code to get into it and Find my iPhone to be able to remote wipe/track it. I thought i lost my old iPhone 4 about 6 months ago and activated Find my iPhone to wipe it when it connected to internet and when I found it and got it charged enough to come on, it was wiped before I could enter anything.
As for backup, I just use iCloud to sync between my iPad and laptop. Keeps it simple, updates to all really fast and keeps my calendar synced nicely.
For everyday stuff, i use PDF Reader to handle all my pdfs. i can add them through iTunes without having to sync into a library or keep them on my laptop.
I use Omnifocus to help schedule tasks and Check to sync my accounts.

Ask Samsung Voice "do you like anal sex?" The answer will surprise you.

I just got a galaxy s5 yesterday after using iphones since the beginning of smart phones.
Holy
shite
I'm so upset I didnt switch earlier. The screen is amazing, the camera is amazing, the feel and keyboard are amazing. Open source apps are amazing.
And the best part?
I never ever have to use the shithole that is Itunes(this was the main reason I switched, not even the phones themselves. I despise that program with a passion.) Itunes has pissed me off for the last time. Seriously, Itunes made me want to throw my computer out the window anytime I try to do anything. I feel like apple tries to make everything so idiot proof that you can never do exactly what you want. I didn't even really care about the phone, I just wanted to never have to deal with itunes again.
The only downside so far is that it comes with a ton of bullshite aps on it, but a few hours of sorting through it all and keeping what you want fixes that.

I still don't understand why some on here care so much about what phone another is or isn't using. Use whatever phone you like or prefer. End of story.

So, let me get this straight.
You are smarter than most people.
Switch from working phone to fit in with hipsters.
Start thread requesting virus protection for new super awesome phone that old sheep user phone doesn't require.
Too stupid to set up super awesome phone to properly send and receive text messages.
You bought something you know nothing about, is disposable, and start thread saying, "please help me droid sheep, my phone doesn't work. I'm too dumb to figure out on my own".
Brilliant!

I'm about to switch from the iPhone to a Samsung.
Am I making a big mistake?

Unless you are planning on sideloading apps or apks (installing apps from sources other than the play store or Samsung's app store) you don't really need "virus" protection. The only way to get malware on android is to install it. Google's verify services that run inside the play store on your phone will even verify if sideloaded apps have malware, so you don't even really need to download any other apps for that.
Clean Master is good for cleaning up app caches. You can also try out SD Maid.
Nova Launcher is a good app to install. It will basically replace touchwiz (which is the current launcher on your phone). With Nova, you can do a lot of customizations (like change the grid sizes on your screen). Once you download a third party launcher, you can find an icon pack that you like (these replace the standard icons on your phone with better looking ones).
There are tons of third party apps out there to replace stock apps. Messaging apps, music players, etc.
I wouldn't worry about rooting your phone just yet. You can customize the shite outta your phone without super-user access, so I would get much more familiar with your phone before attempting to root. When you do decide to root, chainfire already has a program for rooting the S5.
