FIFY. The legislators are merely pandering to their constituents, who would like us to return to the Stone Age.

From the Nola.com article:
quote:

one of the state's most powerful lobbying groups, the conservative Christian Louisiana Family Forum, opposes striking the sodomy ban

Surprise, surprise.

frick everyone involved with that organization.

I agree with you all that the wording is outdated, but if the law is unenforceable then isn't it already repealed anyway? Wouldn't that make this whole thing just a waste of time and taxpayer money?

ETA: Basically the voters of Louisiana paid this lady to attempt to overturn an unenforceable law...

I don't have the numbers in front of me right now, but apparently law enforcement in some Louisiana still use the law to hassle certain folks. It doesn't matter to the cops if the charges are ultimately dismissed.

EBRSO used it to hassle gays a few months ago.

Looks like pretty much a vote along party lines.

Thank the R's.

Tony "I am God" Perkins and his bedroom police have this legislature tied around the finger. They want the government in the bedroom. What they really want is theocracy.
They are the creeps pushing the King James Bible as the state book, which is a slap in the face to all non-protestants (as well as anyone who believes in religious freedom).

How often was this law actually enforced? Does this law solely exist for political points for social conservatives?

Yes

Unless you count it being used to protect us from child predators, which is the LFF's justification. Cause you know, the two are related.

This whole repeal thing was stated because the Baton Rouge Sheriff's Department tried to mess with some gay guys by running a sting operation trying to get them the agree to consensual anal sex in a private setting and then the DA's office refusing to prosecute even though the police arrested and booked them.

The BR Metro Council and now the state legislature has failed to repeal it. Thanks Tony Perkins

None of the supporters of the law can even make a legit argument against it. LFF only lies and talks about the "message" it will send.

How, in 2014, a state government can fail to repeal portions of a bill that ban private, consensual sexual acts between straight adults who aren't related is beyond me.

And lie they do. Seriously. They outright lie and say that the gays who were arrested in the "sting" were trying to molest children in the park.

I'm still wondering why this is even an issue. The fact that the police set up a sting and then had to release their "prisoners" should be embarassing to the police officers but unless this is a pattern of events I'd say it's not the end of the world. Ridiculous outdated laws exist in Alabama too but there are waaaaaay more important things the legislature needs to focus on other than repealing laws that can't be enforced in the first place.

Seems like this was done just to shore up votes for all of the politicians involved. The dems pander to their base by supporting it and the repubs pander to their base by opposing it. But whether it passes or fails nothing has happened anyway. It's a lose-lose for taxpayers.

How many more people have to be illegally arrested for this to become important enough to repeal then? I'd imagine you'd feel differently if you were one of them because I'm sure you've broken this law before too.

Do you guys understand why people like me hate religion. Religious people use their faith as a way to meddle in the lives of others. This is just another example of it.

I hope none of you were hoping for a blowjob tonite.
