frick man, I want to hear what the commentators are saying. It looked bad, but it was obviously not an easy one to call on the ice, it looked like it took a while to make the call.

Yeah, it was very iffy. Initial call on the ice for quite awhile was a 2 minute minor.
Not much the defender can do there when you've already started the hit and the guy has his head down.
Should have kept it at 2 minutes.

The league will protect any questionable hits to the head every time.

The player has to have had the puck man. Its a hit on an unsuspecting player that didnt have the puck and the principle point of contact was the head.
You can argue all you want but everyone on NBC thinks this same way. No way it was clean. He is going to get suspended for it.
Arguing that it was "clean" is just making folks look silly at this point.

Right, that's a 2 minute penalty which is what they initially called.
Changing it minutes later because of the atmosphere is bs. If it was the Blues that had done that it would have stayed at 2 minutes.

It looked a lot like the Orpik hit on Towes to me.

Orpik was mostly shoulder to shoulder than that much of the head, but very similar in terms of head down and leveled.
