California Wants TO Bust Sober Stoners for DUI
Interesting.. This would suck balls if it were to pass..
There are so many gray areas when it comes to this.

California lawmakers want to bust marijuana users for DUI, even when they are not stoned. A recent proposal introduced in the state legislature would make it illegal for an individual to operate a motor vehicle with even a small trace of a controlled substance in their bloodstream.
The proposed legislation, AB 2500, would create a veritable shitstorm in courtrooms across the state, since law enforcement would have the authority to charge people testing positive for miniscule amounts of marijuana and prescription drugs with impaired driving.
“This bill would make it unlawful for a person to drive a motor vehicle if his or her blood contains any detectable amount of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol of marijuana or any other drug classified in Schedules I, II, III, or IV of the California Uniform Controlled Substance Act,” according to the legislation.
Of course, this proposed lunacy, set forth by Assemblyman Jim Frazier, has marijuana supporters in a nauseated state. They say California medical marijuana patients do not stand a chance under these types of laws, because THC, the active compound in marijuana, can potentially linger in a person’s system for days, weeks, and sometimes longer even though the stoned effects have long since gone.
Dale Gieringer, director of California NORML, says the bill is “extreme” and could possibly be amended further down the line to only include marijuana. However, several attempts have been made to pass similar legislation, but they have been unsuccessful. "It flopped last year and it will flop this year," said Gieringer.

LEOs and prisons have to make up that budget somehow. Can't lock them up anymore for holding a dime bag. Gotta find a new way to lock them up.

Then legalize it like Colorado.

That's the single largest problem with legalizing dope, in my opinion. How can you tell if someone is driving impaired? There isn't a breathalyzer type test for the devil's lettuce.

Just because a state legislator proposes a law does not mean it has support or will pass. I think that is what the NORML spokesperson alludes to.

They already do this in Arizona. If you have ANY THC In your system you get a DUI....so you could have smoked a month ago and get a DUI.

You test for impairment, not the simple presence of a substance.
But that would mean less money for gov't coffers so we have ridiculous things like open container laws and a .08 limit and drug tests for things that stay in your system long after the effects have faded.
The drug propaganda in this country is sickening. Absolutely sickening

I agree. I just wish some jackass politician (they are all jackasses) would at least try and get some legit dui laws on the books. No punishment under a .10, current punishments for .10-.14, more severe for .14-1.6, very severe for .16-.18, extreme for .2 or higher, etc.

I know one girl that has 2 marijuana DUIs but she is an idiot and was actually stoned both times. I doubt they are going to test sober people but if you read the New Times they make it seem like they are giving a blood test to everyone they pull over!
