Photo of its a-hole? That's what some say is the tell-tale identifier...

The Eastern Earth Snake is not found as far west as Baton Rouge. However, the Western Earth Snake is found in the Florida Parishes and the Baton Rouge area. LINK

This.

See LINK, includes EBR Parish. Hubby finds them all the time around BR, including our backyard.

Btw if you have a slug and snail problem in your garden you want these guys around. It's a major part of their diet.

. I think you may have a slight range extension. I'm pretty sure it is a rough earth. Undoubtedly of the Virginia genus.

I got a 70 mile range extension in georgia, officially documented last week. Found nerodia erythrogaster far southeast of it's known range in the peach state. I may get a publication in the herpetological review journal out of it.

Congrats on the find. Yeah, used to be Natrix if I remember correctly.

This is obviously the mighty Sasquatch.

You must destroy this evil creature before it destroys you.

Glad I could clear that up.

He asked us to name the snake, not the foliage.

Thanks, I also saw 4 rattlesnakes this week. I love this time of year. Yeah the old world water snakes are still Natrix, but ours are in the genus Nerodia these days.
