Look seriously, I was going to be an a-hole in response to you, but I'm glad you know almost exactly how it is. So I won't.

But don't act like an internet badass because you enjoyed your time and look back fondly about it. You should know more than anyone this shite isn't for everyone. I was giving the OP another view. That's all. So don't call me out about some shite because I'm not all Joe Navy about my time in.

drone programs

If I was a HS grad and not college bound this is exactly what I would be interested in.

Once the FAA decides to issue guidance wrt civilian drones, I have a feeling that this industry is going to take off (pardon the pun) and some ex military guys are going to be in line for some very cush, high paying jobs.

i dont think ill miss the navy per say, ill miss the people, the stories and such. But in all honesty, i do not enjoy this. Like i said, it isnt for everyone.

i wasnt trying to get into a pissing match with you, i know my view aggrevates a few vets, but it is another view of it for people that inquire about it. thats all.

ETA: This is really hard to explain to some people..When I tell them I'd go back in if I could deploy every day and be home every night, its lost

I agree with SthGADawg... I am an avionics tech in the AF, and although it can be stressful depending on what mission you work (I work the B-2, so my stressful comment should be taken with a grain of salt), there are a LOT of job opportunities. With Total Force Integration being the way that it is now, there are also a lot of networking opportunities to provide alternate paths to the same end if he decides active duty isn't his cup of tea. Highly recommended!

You're the one who thinks the only job one can get after being a tanker is to become a mechanic.

Which, although I'm not a mechanic (nor have I ever been one), you may not realize mechanics can make 6 figures a year easy.

Product Support

But the point is I've known plenty of armor branch guys who come out and find high paying good civilian careers. One thing civilian employers like to see is when you can put on a resume that you've commanded anything from a tank to a tank platoon or company.

So, while going into Air Traffic control or something can help someone get a job sitting at a desk staring at a screen for about 50K a year, having the right Armor (or any combat arms experience for that matter) will translate into jobs where you manage those people sitting at their desks stating at screens and make 100K+ a year.

Air Force without a doubt (this is coming from an Army officer) Sounds like he would be a good aircraft mechanic, and that transitions to a very good pay in the civilian world. Hoping my son is so inclined in a few years.

I don't disagree with you here...They're always impressed when I put a dollar value to a ships weapons system, and being in charge of a few crew.

I'd take him into a recruiting station and have him take the EST to get a idea of what he'll score on the real asvab. He's a junior so the recruiters won't be overly talkative. The exam takes about 25 minutes and it's not official. This way you have an idea of what he might qualify for. Your rate ET/IT any CT rates, AT field, Nuclear (higher 80s on the asvab and if he doesn't make that he can take the nuke test to qualify). I've been in 11 years a chief and just left recruiting in baton rouge last year so if you have questions let me know.
