I was very dissapointed by the Rainbow Road on the Mario Kart Wii, I felt like it was really easy, not like the previous one's that were hard as shite.

Hell no. Rainbow Road on the Wii was hard as shite. I couldn't stay on the map at all and it was frustrating.

Rainbow Road on the N64 at least has the rails. Only way you can fall off is herp derping one of the hills or getting a terrible bounce from hitting a chain chomp.

The N64 Rainbow Road was way too long though, and boring as shite once everybody gets spaced out.

I have to agree, the blue shell isn't a luck item. Getting out in first and putting even a little bit of distance on the competition when playing friends makes the race so much easier. The only thing you have to worry with is 2nd place throwing a red shell that can be easily taken care of with a banana peel.

I am not the same as many here who enjoy dumbing down the items to basically turn the game into a Nascar game. The whole point of me playing Mario Kart are the wildcards even with the items being bullshite at times.

I find a lot of enjoyment (eventhough it starts with massive amounts of anger) in having something stupid happen to me while out in first to drop me back only to get sweet revenge to win the race against my buddies. Makes for way more shite talking

Shows what you know. I kick arse at MK. It just isn't a fun course.

Courses more fun than RR:

Mario Raceway
Yoshi's Valley
Royal Raceway
Toad's Turnpike
Kalimari Desert
Koopa Troopa Beach
Moo Moo Farm
Wario Stadium
Bowser's Castle
Sherbet Land
Frappe Snowland
DK's Jungle Parkway

Courses Worse than RR:

Choco Mountain
Banshee Boardwalk

RR is boring.

You must not have suffered enough of these:

Good lead on opponents, good race, took some hits gave some hits, but in 1st place, 1 quarter of a lap left...

Blue Shell!

9th Place

There's no fun in that. Granted Blue Shells can work SOMETIMES and they are perfect for casual fun, but if you have competitive friends or family there's a place for blue shell races and there's a place for more simple races.

Do yall even Super Nintendo?

Rainbow Road was fricking brutal on that, especially when it forked before the last turn.

We were mostly Mariokart 64. Our whole dorm once hosted a Mariokart tournament. First round was one race that was picked by the top seed, and the first and second place winner moved on. Then it went to 2 tracks (first one chosen by the top seed and the second chosen by the winner of the last race), then a cup, then two cups, and finally the Championship where you face off on all 16 tracks. After losing a race (second or below), you funneled a beer. I was one of the best, and made it to the final round, but we were all annihilated at the championship round. Banshee Boardwalk was perhaps the biggest shitshow that I've ever been apart of in videogames, even if I barely remember it. The guys in the final rounds were vomiting pretty consistently. I came in 3rd overall, and we were ridiculously fricking shite faced at the end. It was alot of fun and we didn't finish til dawn.

If that list is in order, the only one I'd question is Yoshi's Valley.

You're taste is almost identical to my group of friends otherwise.

Yea Banshee Boardwalk was a bitch.

I was great at racing but hated it because it always favored the person who wasn't in first. A good driver would hang in second until the last lap and annihilate you with 3 red shells or some bullshite.

This is why we settled it in Battle Mode. My friends and I have spent countless hours on battle mode. Great and fun times.

It isn't in order. That was just to show all the tracks that are better than RR.

Had that plenty of times, I've just accepted it as part of the game. If you get out in front it's easier to stay there while the pack behind you battle back and forth and slow each other down. It's infinitely easier to build a lead as the leader than it is to catch the leader by being in the pack with everyone fighting for position. Being in first is too easy if there is nothing to worry about other than shells and bananas.

All this is just opinion though, I know there are plenty who like to play without items. Just as there are plenty who like to play without items in SSB's, I just fall on the side that enjoys the wildcard of items where at any moment the lead you hold so dear can just come crashing down. Just means no one can ever get comfortable and just slow down and play it safe.

Anyone halfway decent at MK can snipe bananas forward with ease. It's one of my favorite weapons in MK. Completely underrated because it goes over walls and corners. And if you play with a group that's good with them, then it's almost way more fun.

True. Like I said, in a group of casual racers, full items all the time. But that can get stale for a bit. And if you're with some highly competitive or skilled racers, blue shells don't always mesh.

Bananas do make for some good laughs when thrown, definitely one of the WTF moments for whoever you hit with it. Wish they would make the Bob-omb a more prominent item when in 1st-4th place.

Yeah, I could see that with guys who play a bunch. I rarely get to play with people like that though, most of my friends just play every now and then so the game would be extremely boring for me if items weren't set to agressive.

Exactly. And I will say that I would play with items full for awhile to get a feel for the balance. The problem with older MK titles is that bananas were ALL you would get when you were in first (maybe a green shell, you wouldn't even get mushrooms). So either you had to be skilled with them (because you would get taken down quickly and would always need a way to get back up) or you were toast.

I also never liked the lag in item priority. If you were first and got knocked to 5th in Double Dash, you would still often get shells and bananas for a lap or so after being 5th place. That stunk. They fixed it a little with MK Wii, but not enough.

Looking at the Potted Plant in this one, that seems like a good weapon for 1st place. Bomb ombs too.

Yeah, that seems like something that's an easy fix, should be the item is based off of what position you're in when either it's selected manually or the tumbler runs out of time. Not very hard for the game to do a race position check upon selection.
