Recruiting Process

I saw a thread today where a poster accused a Baton Rouge area high school football coach of throwing away a recruits recruiting letters! Well, here are a few words of unsolicited advice!
I don't know about throwing mail away, but coaches do hold letters and not tell the recruit there are schools showing interest! That's why it's important for the recruit and his family to take that ability out of the coaches hands as much as possible! Contact the colleges on their own and give them their home mailing address. And tell them to send all correspondence to that address and not the high school coach! Some colleges will still send mail to the high school also, but at least the recruit will know these schools are interested by the mail they get at home. The high school coach should never be allowed to take the lead or be allowed to have control of the recruiting process! After all, it's YOUR kid's future that's at stake!

Exactly. I'd like to add that no decent Coach should ever do this.

Solid advice. Certainly helps when kids this kind of support from home.

I know a kid who this happened to... But he didnt mind it

Awesome post and advice. And the worst part is that most families and players do this because they think the coach has the kids' best interest in mind, when actually the opposite could be true.
I am disappoint in you.

Good Call Wildman. I had this happen to me in high school. I eventually heard it was because my parents got involved in school board elections about 5 years before my high school years, and the superintendant told my coach to take it out on me, because my parents supported the incumbents opposition. I had a closed door "heart to heart" with my head coach, told him to get the hell away from my recruitment, then had my father handle it. I found it pathetic that local bullshite politics were allowed to dictate a kids future. It was pretty awesome though when Major Applewhite came to visit me at school and I requested to have my position coach present, not my head coach. I came out okay from it all, but you do have to look out for yourself first and foremost in that crazy process.

unless the coach favors one school over another, what would be the motivation in this. also, can't a recruit just post address, phone 3 on facebook etc. this should not be a big deal in this day and age.

Some use the excuse that they don't want the players to get the big head with the recruitment process. But, it is still not their place to determine whether mail is given to the person it is addressed to!

What exactly do you think you know about this whole situation? Because most likely you are wrong.

Many coaches want to be able to tell the recruit about an offer personally and enjoy it with him. What is really needed are solid ground rules between the coaches and parents. The coaches do a lot of the notifying of recruiting coach about the prospect, like sending video, setting it, ect. In many cases he relieves the parent of burdens like these.

Really? You personally KNOW that Weiner holds letters?

It is obvious you have some sort of bias towards CHS and Dale Weiner by your post in this and the whacked thread but you should probably hold your "sources" to yourself

well i went to chs and love the school...why should i hold my sources to myself? why keep this quiet?
if you know so much why don't you enlighten us?

All you are doing is spreading rumors most of which haven't been true to this point
