The fact is his mechanics need a lot of work. His arm strength could be better.
Don't tell this to that lsusolja guy. He needs empirical evidence. If you say mettenberger has a really strong arm he needs it to be scientifically proven since people can't judge for themselves

Chris leak, national championship qb, had this issue

Lolz. Brees had/has a cannon.
Not a throw he can't make and has statistically the best deep ball in the NFL since 2009

If the dude can't see it with his own eyes. I don't know what good any evidence would do. Some people are incapable of viewing things with n objective eye. The fact that he claims to be a scientist is depressing.

I'm talking specifically about his tendency to have his passes sail on him, which is death for a QB.

Do you even disagree that the throw was ridiculously bad?
It was a bad throw. So what?
No valid decisions can be made as to Jennings ability to throw deep, short, or anything else based on his first start in his true freshman year that happened in a bowl game against a top 7 defense in the rain or on a wet field.
I believe I remember Zach having problems with balls sailing on him in his first year as a starter. You guys are making way too much out of the Iowa game.

I agree his arm strength is good enough the main thing he needs to work on is his mechanics so that he is consistently driving the ball with his back foot and improve accuracy. That is not a knock on AJ because all 3 QBs need to work on their mechanics and improve their accuracy. I guess it's a good thing we have Cam Cameron for that.

that wasn't a consistent problem for Mettenberger.

I'm not saying it can't be fixed. I'm saying it is a valid concern and that it is likely the cause of him taking something off his passes so frequently.

I would have thought a "scientist" would know the difference between scholarship and an opinion board.
The OP posted a serious question that didn't demean AJ. Nor did it imply that he thought AJ shouldn't be the starter. If you don't like the topic, ignore it. That's the rational thing to do. It's what I'd expect from a "scientist".

Am I just seeing things weird or does Jennings float almost every pass, including short slant routes? I don't remember how he threw last year and have only seen the videos of him throwing without a defense on the field in spring. It just seems like it's a bad habit that could be very costly during the season.
How many passes have you actually watched him throw?

Per Scout:
Anthony Jennings 6'-2", 202 lbs, 4.52

Areas for improvement: Accuracy, Ball Handling

We will have to see bout accuracy part, but after the 50 yds in the air throw vs. Arkansas I'm not really worried bout AJ's arm strength.

That means nothing. The same scouting services also said Trey Quinn's weakness was speed.

Is called getting it there. If you must arch to cover the distance required, then arch away. If you have enough velocity to arch it less then you do. Lack of velocity = more arch. Throwing on time can alleviate some of the bad that comes from old Archie.Fall will tell us if Uncle Archie is here to stay ,or just for a short visit.....
