quote:

Ohr ruled that Northwestern players can hold an election on whether they want to be represented by the College Athletes Players Association, which brought the case to the NLRB along with former Wildcats quarterback Kain Colter and the United Steelworkers Union.

As a former walk on at TCU this is retarded.

But if they insist on calling Northwestern Football players "employees", that's fine. Pay them but pull their scholarships. Force them to pay their tuition, meals, housing, etc. with their new salaries.

And then the inevitable lawsuit by walk on players since this doesn't apply to them. Walk on players put themselves in harms way just as much as the scholarship guys considering a lot of them are pretty much target practice on scout teams.

I was a walk on at TCU and got 3 concussions throughout my time there playing wide receiver on scout team.

I can't see this being abused.

Nope. Not at all.

I'm not sure they realize the full capacity of what is about to happen. They will long for the days of full rides, housing paid for, food paid for education paid for.

If this takes place, and it has a domino effect around CFB, you can say good bye to everyone but the Big Boys.

Those with the most money, can negotiate the higher compensation.

This is bad.

If this upheld and applied with title 9.. College athletics is in danger of being destroyed.. How they could reconcile title nine will be interesting to say the least

I'm against unions when there are appropriate measures in place for workers to be treated fairly and appropriately.

I don't believe those measures are in place in college football, however. College football is a multibillion dollar industry. Sure the kids who go to the better private schools end up with an expensive education. But kids that go to state school make pennies compared to what they bring in.

I'm going to feel pretty sad for the kids that just want to play ball if this ruins college sports.

I've always thought college football players (well at least some) got a pretty raw deal. But I don't think this helps. I think it would be much better to just get rid of the "3 yr removed from HS" rule, although I know the NFL will never make that happen.

hopefully this goes well, but why do college athletes have to go to class, take tests, get good grades on test ect. Most of the athletes get special treatment anyway so they don't learn much while in college. Many times they will skew the numbers to get these kids into schools. Why not pay the kids, why do they have to be in school to play college football?

So, now only right to work states will have college football?

This will be hilarious if it ends up killing unions everywhere
