(BR Advocate) Tim Lelito will be given shot to earn Saints’ starting job at center, Payton says LINK #SAINTS

Im sure we will draft one in the mid rounds but do Yall think Lelito can hold it down for a little while this rookie develops?

I'm not so sure.

Given a shot=we will probably draft one in mid to late rounds of the draft and see who wins the job. Imo

He'll get the chance to compete if we don't re-sign DLP. I wouldn't be surprised to see DLP re-signed though at this point. Doesn't seem like there is much other interest out there (besides his visit with the 'Skins).

If DLP doesn't re-sign, we have other options like Goodwin and a rookie Center. Lelito will have a chance at the spot, but I don't see it being handed over to him jsut yet.

Was a four year starter for GVS. Tried to see if he had ever played center before and this was all I got.

The Jets were the only other team that showed interest besides the Saints.

I hope not.

Centers aren't a high priced position, absolutely zero reason to not spend a pick on someone more talented for the remainder of Drew 's tenure. An underperforming center can frick up any other off season upgrades and throw a wrench in our entire offense. We've gotten by with cheap at wr and multiple o line positions, time to load up for a serious run. Finding a stud center in 2nd or 3rd would have a bigger trickle down affect on this team than likely anyone else available at at that time.

Not really news given the fact that we have zero centers on our roster and he was the only one that played that spot in preseason.

I definitely see a center getting drafted and it's still possible we bring in a stopgap like Goodwin after we get to camp and see what Lelito and the rookie look like.

Absolutely let him compete, it can't hurt. However if I was the Saints, I'd probably look at drafting Marcus Martin (USC) or Weston Richburg (Colorado State) in the 2nd round. I think both will be high impact players and solid fixtures for years to come at the C position.

usual coachspeak, of course he'll get a shot. His shot to compete might be against a 2nd to 6th Rd pick tho. I count three centers probably 2nd to 4th Rd I would say win the starting job hands down. 3rd to 5th Rd there's another couple that could be better.

There has to be someone else imported that can play the position just for depth. If I was GM-ing I'd target a high end center in the draft that has the capability to slide over to guard in a couple of years.
