It would really just be a better tool for evaluation. If college hitters were using wood bats, there wouldn't be any question if a player's skill set was the result of extra live bats.

But ultimately it was MLB's proposal so they must see it as beneficial.

Absolutely would be the best form of evaluation. The MLB teams would definitely want college baseball teams to adopt wood bats. Then organizations wouldn't have to pay these 18 year olds' salaries to spend 5+ years in the minors before they realize that they aren't major leaguers.

Oh well, hopefully the new balls will make things a little better until they find a way to bring the wood to the NCAA.

Umm, LSU's strength of schedule is 120. That's LOADS better than 130.

The Cajuns will be the biggest OOC RPI boost LSU has all season. The next best is South Alabama, while the other OOC teams on LSU's schedule are BAD.

Cajuns and Tigers have 10 common opponents, but that non-conference series against Alabama will look good come mid-May. LSU's best against Purdue won't...

How many top-25 teams does ULL play the rest of the year, dipshit?

Zero. But LSU only plays three. Looking at the Coaches' poll: Ole Miss, Tennessee and Mississippi St.) You somehow avoided South Carolina and Kentucky.

Looking back, LSU and UL have played the same amount of at-the-time ranked teams, two. (LSU: UL and Vandy, UL: LSU and Alabama).

Quit hiding behind the conference and play somebody OOC.

We played you guys.

I hate our OOC schedule. Most people here do. It was weak. But we've only played 6 games in conference and that alone shot our RPI up 100 spots. I don't know what you mean by "hiding behind". Our remaining schedule is 10 times better than yours. Y'all will win more games. Y'all have a much easier path to hosting and being a national seed. What's the argument?

LSU's tough conference schedule allows for this, has every year prior. ULL on the other hand...

I really don't understand what is difficult to grasp about this concept. Same thing goes for the football team. Sure, we could play a better OOC schedule, but there is no need to. We play top 25 teams week in and week out during conference play. ULL does not, so they better schedule tough OOC games.

It has hurt us in the past actually. I understand it. I wouldn't even say I disagree with it. But that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Quit "hiding behind" playing in the undisputed best conference in the country for the last... forever? K.

Mississippi State scored 23 runs their first two games again Vandy.

Maybe, just MAYBE LSU is not that good of a hitting team?

Maybe, just maybe, if you look at the game info, it might give another perspective that MSU was not exactly tearing the cover off the ball. Maybe Beede had an off night which can happen to any pitcher, and his teammates didn't exactly provide much help while committing 5 E's to MSU's 0. Big innings can happen against anyone. This is one of those things that keep being repeated to make LSU look worse than they are when MSU had some good fortune and Vandy a rather poor 2 day effort. I believe MSU is a high quality team, not undermining their effort to take the series @ home 2-1.

LINK

The bats are the bats. Any guy now hitting north of .320 vs quality pitching can hit. Everyone is playing with the same bats, shouldn't affect the draft potential of any player putting up good #'s. Who it should affect is the pitchers, making them look better than they may be beyond college ball due to the raised seam bat going against bats with tiny sweet spots and lack of rebound effect.

The argument is that you can't blast UL's strength of schedule when you have the 3rd worst SOS in your conference, even with the SEC boost. Granted not all SEC teams play everybody, but the other teams in the SEC manage to schedule quality OOC opponents.

SOS
6 - Florida
12 - Kentucky
13 - South Carolina
23 - Auburn
27 - Georgia
38 - Ole Miss
44 - Vandy
55 - Mississippi State
58 - Alabama
64 - Texas A&M
74 - Missouri
120 - LSU
157 - Tennessee
196 - Arkansas (WOW)

The general consensus with LSU fans is "How can you rank UL that high when they haven't played anybody?" When the fact of the matter is that the Cajuns have played the exact same number of ranked teams to this point in the season that LSU has. And honestly, are just a better ball club at this point.

Why not? Have you looked at who we have coming and who you guys have coming? Is that not relevant? We all agree that LSU hasn't played anyone good OOC. Ours will get better. Yours won't.

I don't think anyone has said that. If you look at the TD poll I'm pretty sure everyone has ULL ranked in the top 5. But the fact is, at the end of the season LSU will have a better strength of schedule.

Trust me, they're saying it. On this board, in fact.

Totally agree. Just not necessarily a better SOS at this point in time. UL has earned their ranking thus far. And if LSU takes care of business in the SEC, then they'll deserve the boost that comes from that.

The only people who bitch about the OOC RPIs are people associated with shitty conferences. Unfortunately, they let some of these people on to the selection committee.

Oh, and to the OP...the "new" bats are terrible, it is known. You could do better with a wet rolled up newspaper. Would love to see MLB work with college baseball and provide them with wooden bats. It would be a relatively economical way to further college baseball along as a defacto minor league system.

You have to feel sorry for the ones that act that way. Living with massive little brother syndrome can't be much fun.

As for the OP, the new bats obviously suck. But this team just can't hit the ball right now, regardless of what bat they're using. Here's to hoping that changes.

FYI...

And I am a stats guy...

Screw the RPI. It is calculated based on Wins/# of Games, the avg of a team's opponents winning pct, the avg of a teams opponents opponents winning pct, plus the adjusted home wins/losses and road wins losses.

25% - Winning Percentage
50% - Opp Winning Percentage
25% - Opp Opp Winning Percentage

LSU has a 20-5 record but thanks to the bonus point difference of home or road wins/losses, their RPI record becomes 16.1-4.7

ULL has a 23-2 record but it changes to 22.1-2.6 so their discrepancy is a little bit better. Then comes the fun part, the OWP and the OOWP.

They played Alabama and LSU so they get credit for the SEC games (OOWP), they also get credit for any team they play against that plays against talent. So they destroy shitty teams and those team go on to play good teams and guess who cleans up? ULL.

ULL teams on their schedule

Southern Miss (They play Ole Miss, LSU, Rice, Florida)
Eastern Illinois (Vandy)
Alabama/LSU (THE SEC and every team each one of them play)

Etc...

So you might be on top today little friend but it will not last.

Good luck against Western Kentucky. You prob end up losing 2 of 3 there.
