I think folks are missing an important element: what defines god-tier?

"They can't be like Galactus", okay that's a start but it's still to general/vague. There needs to be something a bit more specific, having something (or things) like that will make editing out those characters a lot easier.

Try this: Could any person on this list conceivably beat any other person given a day to plan?

With that, let's take Nightcrawler as an example. Could Nightcrawler conceivably beat the Silver Surfer given a day to prep? Probably not. Could he beat Havok? Sure. That means Nightcrawler and Havok both are okay but the Surfer might be questionable.

So we take the Silver Surfer... Could someone like... Hulk conceivably beat him? If he got angry enough he could rip poor Norrin's arms off and beat him to death with them. So Surfer isn't quite god-tier.

Could someone like Mr. Fantastic beat Hulk? Yes.

Could Cap beat Mr. Fantastic? Yes.

Could Nightcrawler beat Cap? Possibly, if he could get close enough to teleport only Cap's arm away or something.

While this was the long way around, it shows that someone like Surfer could be considered nearly god-tier but still qualifies because he's beatable by non-god-tier characters.

Could Galactus be beaten by any of those mentioned given 24 hours of prep time? No, this means he's definite god-tier and thus disqualified.

Thoughts?

if we are putting in god-tier characters then you have to give legitimate debate into why they win. i think its bullshite someone can say "thor because hes a god and kills wolverine with one hit of his hammer" or something retarded like that.

People have to come to grips that god-tier characters are vulnerable and have the ability to lose. this is not strictly based on powers, personalities must be taken into consideration as well. Most heroes lose and fall based on their personalities, not their powers.

i really dont consider Surfer a god-tier. his powers are, absolutely. but like I mentioned in my post, Surfer is probably one of the most "fricked in the head" heroes. Someone with the ability to do illusions or mess with emotions could conceivably bring down the Surfer based on his guilt and compassion. The guy has given up his mantel several times based on this type of thing many times.

I agree with what you are saying.

Its hard to figure out though because you don't want...

But as Freauxzone has pointed out, can you really have a Marvel tournament without Surfer, Thor, etc.

So hard to figure out what to do!

There are others here that do, so having some sort of feasibility test is the best way to sort it out. With what you mentioned about the Surfer, Danielle Moonstar or Psycho Pirate (DC villain, died in original Crisis) could possibly beat him.

i say you throw them in. but if someone makes a legitimate case for them to be defeated it should be counted. we shouldnt count god-tier cases for a win without something substantial. why would Thor overcome this other heroes abilities?

i mean hulk has taken down thor before. so i think you can put them in. tony stark has also manipulated thor.

Going that deep just gets questionable. I think there are maybe 4 or 5 problems on the Marvel side:

Hulk, Surfer, Dr. Strange and Thor, maybe Jean. There's no other hero in contention that would come close (Sentry maybe, Adam Warlock...eh we won't be debating those). And I wouldn't leave any of those out, based on principle.

Of those, if you leave any out, you have to leave out equivalents. Swamp Thing is godlike. Flash. Tough call. Superman most certainly would be out. Shazam. Then it just gets less interesting. See my Cable example above. Ok so Surfer is out, but Cable might be surfer's equal. So he's out too. Then Deadpool can heal ANYTHING. He's out. It's a slippery slope to go down. So leave out the bonafide gods and nothing else. Thor is an alien, not a god. Galactus is "godlike."

That's why you by popularity really and ability to debate. We can't really debate about the Tribunal or Galactus etc., so there's no point. (And Villains are ALWAYS Overpowered, that's kind of the point).

Or, how would this other hero overcome Thor's abilities?

To go the Wolvie route, even Mjolnir can't break adamantium so all that would need to happen is for Logan to get close enough to *schnikt* right through Thor's chest. Unlike Holk, Thor doesn't have a crazy regen power that could rebuild his heart just a few seconds after Wolverine stabs him through it.

Colossus is trumped by Hulk. Blank Panther and Daredevil are essentially the same thing.

I'd probably leave Daredevil, drop Colossus and Panther, add Mr. Fantastic and either Scarlet Witch or Kitty Pryde. Maybe add Bishop or Rogue. Or Wonder Man.

Rogue Namor and Wonder Man are all similar though.

I'll add Kitty Pryde and Hawkeye for under dog value for now.

Gambit will remain a possible wild card.

Black Panther stays for now (Affirmative Action)

I will update the OP now. I have to get ready to go coach, so tonight when I get home, I will update everything and finalize the marvel ballot, so please keep discussing today.

Well if AA is the goal drop Hawkeye for Widow and Take out Daredevil for Ms. Marvel.
