Looks like it'd be great for bass but didn't see anyone fishing it this weekend the two times I passed over. Accessible with a yak?

I think the same thing every time I pass over, but have never fished it. Seems like it'd be chock full of bass and sacaulait.
I think the key is hitting it at the right water level since most of it is pretty low.

Myself, Thomas Magnum, and Josey fished that area several times a few years ago during one summer. We only fished for bream and caught a pile of them over the Memorial Day weekend fishing three days straight. The water was beautiful and we never went back. I always say I'm going back when I cross the Basin, but haven't done so yet.

I'm with both of you. As many times as I have been caught on that damn bridge I should carry a rod with me

Let's go. We can squeeze three in my boat - just can't all stand on the same side.

I've kayaked a lot of it. There's a launch on the back side if it. mcgee's landing I think.
When we put in, we launched under the interstate at the rest area exit. We paddled a lot of the canals and saw a lot of boats pulling in fish. We crossed all the way to the back of it and that's where we saw Mcgee's landing. The have a nice ramp and it looks like they do swamp tours too. We then paddled to the western side of it.
When we were about as far as possible from our cars, the sky turned black and the winds picked up. One of a few times the I was nervous about the weather. We cut across the middle of it as fast a possible in a kayak. It stormed hard for 10-15 minutes and then improved.
In a yak, you'd want to launch from Mcgee's to fish. Less paddling to get to area to fish.
I think we covered 37 miles that day. Probably doesn't need to be said, but there are a bunch of alligators so only go if your OK being around them.
Edit- Cow island lake has the most fish I've ever seen. Only accessible by boat a few times a year when water is high enough to cross over top of a weir. You an get there anytime in yak because you can carry yak across the weir. A bit of a paddl to get there and on way back you have to paddle against the Atchafalaya river current for 2 or so miles.

Fished there once many years ago. Launched from the Henderson side and no sooner than we got towards the area to fish got caught in a hellacious t-storm. Lightening striking trees around us, hail, and white caps. never been back

An 18 foot QCC touring kayak. Usually Paddle 20 miles a few times a week for exercise. 40+ miles for training. Haven't been in the boat in 6-7 months due to 2 shoulder surgeries (non kayak related) and a lot of PT, but I should get the all clear from the doctor next Thursday.
