Is the US Postal Service the worst service ever?

I can't even get someone to answer the phone at the Bennington location. I have a package that required a signature. I left a note asking them to see the front office of the apartment complex. They didn't deliver, so now in trying to figure out when it will be available to pickup. Surely not this afternoon?
Phone is busy and has been for hours. Awesome.
Signature required delivery is the dumbest thing ever. Why not just have late evening pickup options? I work and the Post Office closes at 4:00PM.
Another note: I had two packages to be delivered today. Same note was left on my door for UPS. UPS followed through and delivered package to the front office since it was signature-required as well.
Rant over.

FWIW, this would've never happened at the Laurel location.

That's a fact! I just called the Government Street location and they answered. I wanted to make sure the phone number I had for the Bennington location was correct. I guess I'll take some time off tomorrow morning to pick up package. Awesome.

try calling your cable provider

At least with cable I have the option. With USPS, you're stuck with dealing with them if the shipper uses them. I never use USPS for shipping. They suck so much.

I learned a lot going in there at christmas looking for a package that said it was delivered online.
The guy says "so you saw it was delivered online?"
Me: "Yea...your tracking equipment says its delivered"
Guy: "Well that isn't a reliable service"
Me: "Why would I ever use you for shipping if you can't track anything accurately"
Guy: "I'll get someone else to help you...."

They really aren't that bad IMO
I've had way more issues with fedex in the past couple years.
Like most things though it probably depends on the location.

The postal service is a paradox. On the one hand, it's still somewhat amazing they can deliver a letter to BFE so quickly and cheaply.
On the other hand, whoever designed the customer service model was an aggie. All these different doors or windows to stand by if you're picking up mail vs. buying stamps, etc. Even the parking lots are weird and conducive to accidents.
And of all the places I changed my address with on the last move, the post office was the only one to f something up.

Eh, you pay 40 cents and they deliver something across the U.S. for you.
Let's not over exaggerate here.

It was probably closer to $30 for this package. Large package. Thanks though. Great input.

This is probably accurate. The Bennington location is terrible.

Are you old enough to know the term "going postal"?
Just accept the bad service.

They are awesome which is why we just turned our entire healthcare system over to the same folks to run.

I think Walmart has customer service that's in the same bad range as the USPS.

Not even close. You should try living somewhere to which UPS or FedEx won't deliver.
The great privatized options to USPS actually use USPS to deliver those packages. And if something gets sent back to a distribution center, good luck just going and picking it up unless you're fortunate enough to live near the closest one.
