Buying a Used Car. Suggestions on which cars to buy/stay away from needed!!!

Got in a wreck last week and totaled my car (not my fault). What sucks is that my car was paid off and only had 90k miles on it. I was planning on running that thing into the ground...
Anyway, Looking for purchase a used car in the 15k-22k range and wanted to know what vehicles the OT has had in the past that they would/wouldnt recommend?
I'm looking at a small SUV (pilot, highlander, Murano, Terrain) or smaller truck (frontier, Tacoma)
TIA

In the same boat. Looking to replace a tundra that had 187000 miles on it.
I had actually thought that morning, I wonder if i'll make it to 200k...
Short answer, no.

I had an Infiniti QX4 for a little while. I really liked it. Pretty nice on the inside and relatively cheap to maintain at indie shops.

Of your list the only one to avoid is the Terrain. I think the Tacoma & Highlander are the two best bets.

Buy a copy of the annual car issue of Consumer Reports. It'll tell you everything you ever needed to know. It's the April issue so it should be on the newsstands now.

Jeep Grand Cherokee
156,000 trouble free miles out of my 2006- the A/C went out at the end of last summer, but that's the first "major" repair I'll make- replaced 2 bulbs, the clock spring in the steering wheel and the water pump.

Highlander is the way to go, bud. Pilot is okay too.

Go buy a 4Runner 4.0 V6.. It's one of the most reliable mid-size SUV's you can get

I have had good luck with most Japanese used cars. Stay away from Euro cars. Repairs are very costly. I also would stay from GM and Chrysler

I love my Highlander. I would recommend one to anyone.

The rav4s after 2000 are prone to trans issues. Newer body style went back to an aisin trans.
Honda automatics require you keep the fluid perfect to last if you abuse a little.
Avoid the 3.0 taco. The 2.7 is probably the most reliable mptor ever except for a plymouth motor in the 60s whos name eludes me atm.
No murano. Excellent power, but too many in the junk yard with blown motors.
For american brands.... the 5.0 explorer defines reliable...but fords have weak suspension components.
The GM offerings....eh the 4.3 blazer was the last reliabke small item they made.
From jeep...if it isnt the 4.0 or the small diesel...back away. Even then go in knowing you will be spending coin.
The newer japanese stuff made elsewhere is not as reliablr...or abusable i should say.
My wife and I ditched the new vehicles we had last year for cheap small suvs with 4x4...and then suzuki left the US market...which doesnt matter really...because nothing ever breaks...and maintenance items like belts and hoses are easily had.
Whats your required fuel mileage, level of comfort, and level of reliability... thatll tell me a lot.
To me. The ability to go anywhere cheaply and reliably trumps everything else.
If you can stand the styling...the original scion xb in an auto is probably the most reliable small car of the last 15 years...and you can fit a ridiculous amount of stuff in the toaster.
A deer retired mine at 240k...it ran as new.
