Will he get fired or will a trip to the NIT be enough to save his job?

He won't be fired because he has Ben Simmons coming in 2015

I would imagine he gets his full contract regardless. Why give Trent 4 years and not Johnny ?

2nd. What coach would consider coming to LSU if Johnny is fired after 3 seasons ?

I do agree though, that after 4 seasons, Johnny would have either failed or succeded in bringing the program along in the right direction. By success, I am talking about finishing in the top 4 of the SEC and taking this team to the Dance. If we don't make a tourney next year or year 4, I think he will be fired.

After year 4, If success is not realized, I think the Athletic Director/BOS and major boosters will need a major intervention concerning the basketball program. I think Johnny will get it turned around next year though.

There's no reason to fire him so far. We had two straight seasons of last place finishes in the SEC. Trent still didn't get fired. 8th (overachieved) and 7th (underachieved) isn't reason enough to fire.

He will get at least 4 years. Maybe more. Basketball simply isn't important at LSU apparently. They will be happy to just coast along with him for as long as they can. He clearly isn't the guy that's going to build this program into anything more than what it is right now!

The reason we're down on JJ isn't recruiting, it's how unprepared and unmotivated the team looks, even with very good players on the roster. Very poor X & O coaching and seemingly little motivation/passion coming from the bench.

Makes me concerned whether we'll ever be relevant with JJ as coach, even with outstanding talent that he'll bring in.

Wait until next year because Ben S is coming in. I heard the same thing last year..."if JOB stays we will be so much better or wait until Martin comes in or blah blah blah. Wake up people. If we fail next year it will be if only JOB would have stayed. We have an average coach...accept it.

The biggest negative to hiring Jones was that he will be very difficult to get rid of due to his connections and long-term friends/boosters, etc.

Of course, it took forever to get rid of Brady too and almost no one liked him as a person.

I think Jones can be very successful here, but he's got to address some of his coaching issues.

I can't imagine he gets any less than 4 years, and though I was not a fan of the hire I'm fine with that.

Johnny has alot of friends with money and influence solidly behind him, including one who the LSU admins seem to be a bit intimidated by.

But even if you get past that, he has set up a staff that can flat out recruit and has a son who plays on the local scene at a school that has at least 3 D-1 prospects and can probably establish beneficial ties on the local AAU scene.

So he's gonna be here awhile.

I do think there are coaching issues that need to be addressed and I haven't ruled out the possibility that he can self evaluate and address those, learn and get better.

I like Johnny....hell, everyone likes Johnny. That's ultimately why he got this job.

I want him to succeed. Doesn't mean I have to be happy with this season. I don't think any real fan should.

But it isn't the litmus test anymore than last year was. I just want to see signs that we will progress and develop the program in the next couple of years.

JJ has been saddled with two undersized guards, which hurt more than people think.

JJ has recruited to fix this....give him one maybe two more yrs to right the ship.

I wouldn't fire JJ in any event, but if Mickey and Martin return (which they should because they aren't nearly ready), and LSU continues to play sloppy, inconsistent ball with on again, off again defense, I'll have serious questions.

I say play out the contract and make a call, just as was intended with the contract to begin with. Considering the future talent we have coming in, LSU should improve. If they don't, there's obviously a problem.

Jones is still doing work. We haven't seen his best team yet, by a long shot

It took Dale Brown seven seasons to get to the NCAA Tournament. But when he got there, he reeled off 14 Tourney appearances in 16 seasons, and two Final Fours.

Johnny Jones appears to be moving the program along faster than Dale Brown did, even though the program was not much better when Jones got hired than it was in 1972. If it takes Jones four seasons to get to the Tournament, I'm OK with that.

Besides, in college basketball, it's 80% recruitment anyway, and Jones is a very good recruiter. Give him time.

JJ is on thin ice, hopefully he will make a better showing next year with his on the court game time coaching because this year he was pitiful.
