That narrows it down considerably. The flight radius includes Pakistan, just barely. But it would have to cross India first and I don't think it could get across India or land in India without being detected. If it landed, it's on an island in the Indian ocean. There can't be too many islands there with an suitable airfield.
ETA: what if the real prize were those 20 computer engineers? They landed somewhere, destroyed the aircraft, disposed of the other passengers, and took off again in another plane with them.

The national news last night was going down the "suicide" possibility road but I don't buy that. Hard to imagine the whole flight crew wanting to end it all.

Just read a story about an Australian mech engineer who gave gave his wedding ring and watch to his young sons before the flight (just in case something happened to him). Odd.

If the co-pilot disposed the pilot, just how hard would it have been for him to fly off-course and crash/land somewhere else? Would the other crew members or passengers have had any idea they weren't on the correct path?
There was deliberate action taken for some reason. Obviously, it wasn't because of mechanical issues.

In this day and age I don't see someone taking over a plane and 239 people do nothing. I think that someone would attempt to use a cell phone or get something out to someone on the ground.
Was their technology to block all communication? Perhaps
I am leaning towards the decompression theory that they all went to sleep and the plane went on autopilot. The decompression damaged the transponder and that is why no signal.
Am I off base?

Nope it has to done manually and auto-pilot wouldn't have made that turn back to the west. This was deliberate by someone

It was dark, and most of the passengers were probably asleep. It would be hard to fool the cabin crew, though. And eventually everybody would wake up and see they were over water, not the Chinese mainland.

Yes it was dark but wasn't it only an hour or so into the flight? If so maybe not that many were sleeping

Yes. You are. The transponder HAS to be shut off manually. And not only was the transponder shut off, the communications system was likewise shut off - both done separately over a span of minutes.

I think I remember reading somewhere that Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 did NOT have wifi on board.

If the pilot(s) were complicit it makes sense. They could have been talking to the passengers over the intercom, feeding them lines of bullshite about their change in course and what not. A lot of people were on the news yesterday saying this was most likely an inside job if Flight 370 was deliberately re-directed.
