In front of kids. Apparently things are a little different in Denmark. Serious circle of life shite going on here.

Wow. This is actually encouraging that someone in a position of power has the nuts to do this and stand up to the ridiculous public reaction. What really gets me is that PETA themselves kill thousands of shelter animals every year and no one seems to give a shite about that.

I think giraffes have a place in the charismatic megafauna. I read the zoo's FAQ on it through the link. Contraceptives would "apply a poorer animal welfare"...so they went with the shotgun.

Why no outcry for whatever other animals are slaughtered to feed the lions? I'm sure those lions consume tons of meat each year at that zoo, but I guess a few hundred cattle < one pretty giraffe in the goofy animal rights world.

So a zoo, which owns and breeds these animals, decides that it is in their own best interest to slaughter this giraffe and use it to feed other zoo animals rather than spend money to raise and feed a giraffe that would have to live sterile and in no way make the zoo any money. They get blasted for making this decision? Just because its a pretty/cute giraffe? Cows are slaughtered daily for food. They feed snakes live mice and rats but thats all ok because its not a cute giraffe

Huge double standard here. What if we went and killed an Alabama kid so he couldn't inbreed?
