Does it make sense to add a nice upper to a Stag lower?

Basic info is I have a Stag Model 2 complete rifle with a cheap quad rail. It's a carbine length gun, and to be a real Operator I think I need a mid-length upper.
It would be great to just buy a new complete DD, BCM, etc rifle, but that's not happening.
Is it worth just switching out the upper? I want a more accurate, more controllable rifle with a better (lighter) rail system. I also want to have a decent brand name on my upper if I ever take a carbine class.
I realize the lower is not up to the standards of the brands mentioned above, but how big of a difference does that make?
Budget ~ $800

I am in the middle of my first build so take this FWIW, but
The lower is just a machined block of steel. Any lower is pretty comparable. Now the upper and the LPK are where things get better or worse with $.
I put a BCM SOCOM carbine on a PSA lower, fwiw.

I wouldnt think that the lower would make much of a difference outside of the trigger group.

Also would I be losing anything by keeping my BCG and charging handle?
I see lots of talk about a bravo company charging handle.

The lower in all honesty just gives you resellablity (that a word?) and the "ooh lookey" factor at the range.
As long as your lower is milspec youre GTG.

WTFF?

Thanks. I don't plan to ever sell it.
Thinking about spray painting it soon actually which will kill its value.
Eta: operator and carbine class things in OP were tongue in cheek

Lower does not make much of a difference other than the trigger. I would get a new BCG, the stag stuff sometimes is not staked properly. Or just buy a new bolt and get a new carrier later on. Rainier just had a sale on their bolts, I think it may be still going on.

I think the majority of them are aluminum. I'm sure that's what you meant.
But yea I agree with others. Besides triggers, pretty much every other piece of hardware is the same. Well, some rifles have ambi mag releases and bolt releases so those are definitely different. But for the most part, it's just a machined piece of metal with some other small metal parts in it. The buffer tube is the same way.

Yep. I wouldn't put too nice of an upper on it, but that's just for the hell of it. I'd go find a more "worthy" lower for 130 bucks and then save the Stag for a Stag-level build. But again, that's just because it would seem mismatched to me and might be a little weirder to sell.

I'm open to suggestions on replacing the lower, but I'd want to keep the bolt, trigger group, etc for now. Not looking to spend $1300.
So what lower would you get?

I may be in the minority but i like to have matching name brands on the upper/lower. I know it makes no real difference but it may help resale if that is something you may consider in the future. Also the finishes may be slightly different from one manufacturer to the other. I do have a delton upper on a cmmg lower and it appears to be the same finish. That said when i build my .300blk i will probably get a cmmg upper to match to my already built lower and put the upper on it now on a different lower.

LOWERS
Disredgard the stupid zombie logo, it's still a Rainier Arms lower
BCM lower, no stock
UPPER
BCM upper $535
BOOM! under $1000 for the upper and lower, just add rail (simple magpul forearm will do for most people) and sights. SO maybe just over $1000 for a great rifle that will outlast you and a company that will back up their product.

Yep, as they mentioned I'd go Mega, BCM, Rainier, etc. Anything in that category will probably (and nonsensically) make the rifle seem more complete if you ever want to resell it. Any billet lower too, but that's even harder to justify $$$ wise.
Does Spike's still make lowers? I've never used one but back when I was doing builds people seemed to like them pretty well.

He'd still need a bolt carrier group and a charging handle for a complete rifle.

He said he already had a BCG and charging handle, anyways he should sell the stag and upgrade for minimal effort.

Ah, I didn't see that. Still, if he's going to buy a complete lower and a complete upper he should just spend the extra $200 and have two complete rifles.

Matching Mega billet upper and lower set all day everyday. From a looks and fit/function standpoint it's the F150 of the AR receiver world.

Also if you're thinking the complete lower route, I'd go LMT over BCM. With the SOPMOD option you get a $200 stock with it (that also happens to be one of the most comfortable ones there is) amd an ergo grip for only like 90 bucks more than the BCM.
