Rabbits actually move a lot when it snows. We used to go rabbit hunting every time it snowed. But, we tracked them and then flushed them out of the brush.
Also, cottontails don't use holes as much as people think. They'll hide in them if they're being chased. But they don't dig their own holes at all. They'll take refuge in abandoned armadillo holes sometimes but I don't see it happen all that often.

Yep, the reflection of the spotlight off the snow may make it harder to see the eyes
