Check out johnny Jenkins. I love this album. A little different that what people have suggested but you might like it.

Most if the Doors final album "LA Woman" is pretty bluesy.

I think my favorite songs on there are:

Card Hiss by my Window

Been Down So Long

new Orleans stuff
not really known for the blues.

Joe Bonamassa is a rising star. Kenny Wayne Sheppard is another rock-blues guy. Buddy Guy is the archetype today IMO.

SRV. This is probably the single greatest display of guitar playing ever; Texas Flood at the El Mocambo

Buddy Guy. Greatest entertainer I've ever witnessed. He even gets this dead crowd to liven up; Feels Like Rain

Albert Collins "Honey Hush"

Albert King, Blues Power.

Magic Slim and the Teardrops; I'm a Bluesman

James Cotton - "Cotton Crop Blues" (1954) -- Pat Hare on lead guitar

Pat Hare - "I'm Gonna Murder My Baby" (1954)
quote:

In December 1963, Hare shot his girlfriend dead, and also shot a policeman who came to investigate. At the time of his arrest, he was playing in the blues band of Muddy Waters. He was replaced in the band by guitarist James "Pee Wee" Madison. Hare spent the last 16 years of his life in prison, where he formed a band named Sounds Incarcerated.

This is probably my favorite blues cut of all time. That uptown swing with the Telecaster bite.

"Midnight Hour" by Gatemouth Brown

I actually own a couple of VHS tapes of that show straight from Gatemouth. I wasn't a huge fan of his Rickenbacker days, but that was a badass show.

Excellent, excellent choices.

Might throw in Robben Ford..a guy who will match up with any current modern blues guitar player. While I'm at it, why not add Derek Trucks (Haynes and Trucks were both guitarist with the Allman Brothers in the later years).

Robben Ford The Way You Treated Me

Joe Bonamassa Different Shades of Blue

Derek Trucks I'd Rather be Blind, Cripple and Crazy

These are a few of my favorites.

I count the counting crowes as the blues. I'm seeing them with my girl, not one of my hoes, on Thursday and I could not be more excited!

It is Joe Bonnomassa's opinion that Greg Koch is the worlds greatest living guitarist and he is one of the few people Joe invites to share the stage with him. He can do the blues, and any other style you can imagine. Check it out.
