Bravo man. Really enjoy seeing your mission stories

I love your lander design for the Duna mission. I've been trying to come up with new designs lately and I might try some of your ideas. Planning a Duna mission myself.

Every mission beyond Minmus seems to require a rescue rocket on standby .

Jeb staring at the Mun while EVA. I always seem to have a dyslexic moment with shift and ctrl while EVA, adds some peril to collecting that science I suppose.

That's awesome
A 4 minute burn? Impressive, don't think I could hold it together for that long, too much pressure.

Is there an easier way to get all the mun biomes rather than launching a new rocket for everyone?

I landed on Minmus well before I landed on Mun.

I did have enough fuel remaining to get back in to Sun orbit. I am now preparing a rescue mission. I imagine the rescue mission will be more fun then a lot of the missions that I have done so far. I designed a new ship just for the mission. In order to retain my science I will attempt to dock with the ship and return the entire thing back to Kerbin.

Nice Duna attempt. Probably should of left it in Duna orbit, would of been an easier rendevous.

What I have found to make Duna a much easier mission is to make a lander so you can leave plenty of fuel in orbit with your main ship. Pretty much like an Apollo mission. Lander can pretty much just have enough fuel for entry to Duna and then exit/rendevous with interplanetary ship. You can make it light enough where you can land with only chutes and no thrust.

The Mun is a good place to test out your lander design and ship/lander renedevous without the need for long Duna missions/easier rescue if failure occurs, you need more fuel for the lander since you can't use chutes.

Send a rover up there if you don't want to do it over an over.

Then is there a device...or is it the lab's purpose to be able to get more science from transmitting data vs. recovery?

You could do a returnable rover, I think you will find out that rovers are a pain in the arse on Munar gravity. I would just with multiple flights. You can easily get enough fuel on a lander to hop around a few biomes in one trip.

I remember in sandbox mode doing tons and tons of landings, utilizing saves, to get a trash lander to drop a rover payload while in a low sweeping descent over Mun.

I once got it perfect...rover rolled on impact, but everything was intact. I tried and tried to flip the rover...no dice.

The next time I got it to land correctly, but at the cost of some steering equipment.

For what it's worth, orbiting these bodies and doing experiments is a whole lot of science as is.

Played around with some rocket designs over the last few days, tried an "asparagus" design for the initial stage, was crazy efficient. Managed to get to the Mun with lots of spare fuel, on the way down to land realized I forgot landing gear and lights but still managed to touchdown and get back home. You would think Jeb would take a flashlight.

Finally made it to and landed on Duna.

Took a lot of fuel to get out to that part of the solar system and to get the right trajectory for an encounter. Bob Kerman had to orbit Duna a few years to get the right timing. He also did a flyby of Duna's moon just prior to landing on Duna.

Lots of science was achieved!

I have been out of town since last Sunday, I will post updates when I get back in town this weekend! I plan to get to Duna as well. Pectus, which design did you end up using for a lander? Apollo style, and then rendezvous for the return trip?

Just legs.

No return trip.

In the name of science.

Game is like crack once you figure out how to land on stuff.

Kerbal is 40% off on Steam again for those that don't have it. Robbaz added another pet asteroid video a few days ago as well.

Saw that! Everyone who was a kid at one time in their life should own this game!

TODAY: I landed on Eve!

I had a really weird approach, but made a nice orbit, quicksaved and went for the landing.

On the way in I wanted to pick up a tad extra science, so I EVA'd my Kerbonaut and even thought he chutes weren't fully deployed he could hang on...then then the ship tilted and he let go and fell...for fifteen thousand meters. He bounced...survived...and waited 2 minutes for his ship to touch down safely.

At 1.7 x Kerbin's gravity, he couldn't quite jump and grab the ladder to bring science he collected form the surface back into the command pod, so I made him knock over the ship and get in.

Got lots of science.

No return mission planned.

In the name of science!

Tryin to learn how to dock, so I can put a big arse ship together and hit all celestial bodies in one trip. Anybody got any tips on docking? I can get the ships really close but all hell breaks loose around 500 m.
