At least give that poor bastard a rover to play with

Actually was going to do that after I did this....

Took Johneny Kerman to orbit Duna and Ike. Got some EVA and crew reports from orbiting both so I could unlock ladders and rover materials. Now that I have those unlocked, Eve is my next destination.

Was sending a mission to get into orbit around Eve last night but when I was captured by the planet, I realized I didn't have enough fuel to get a low circular orbit and return to Kerbin. Had to abandon the mission and get Johneny back home. Have to build a new rocket.

Got this distant picture though with some

You are crushing me. I replaced my engine with the nuclear one and see if that helps me get to Duna. I should have plenty of gas by looking at your pictures.

Okay so I've been playing the demo and this game is fricking AWESOME. I have to tone all the graphics settings way down so its not so laggy but I finally built a rocket and got into orbit!

Would have never guessed so many Ole Miss fans we space explorers. Go figure.

Sharing Oxford with the Universe one planet at a time.

If Scott Manley has taught me anything, it's that you ALWAYS use nuclear engines when going to other planets. They are ridiculously efficient

Downloaded the demo about 15 crashed launches ago, this shite is addicting.

It really is.

Just wait until you get into orbit and start exploring other celestial bodies.

Congrats buddy! Seeing the planet Kerbin for the first time in orbit had me in awe. It's a beautiful game.

Good to see you guys getting to other planets. The game really gets a lot more interesting when you leave the safety of Kerbin and her moons.

I've decided that when I can actually get something into orbit, I'll buy the full version.

Well...um...that's like, his opinion man.

But really, I'm launching massive landers with tons of fuel yet was barely having enough for a planetary rendezvous. I couldn't figure it out and I'm stubborn, so I finally said, all these damn things are using these little nuke engines let me try that. I'm going for it now.

Just took my first Kerbal to Eve

Nuclear engine stage after leaving Kerbin's sphere of influence.

Burning for circular Eve orbit

Finally got into a decent circular orbit

Fernand Kerman on an EVA. Excited to be there. He has no idea what his fate is.

Entering Eve's atmosphere. Was aiming for a coastal landing.

Decoupled the nuclear engine stage (Still had a ton of fuel left) and deployed the lander stage.

Thought that the lander stage would stay intact but the rocket and fuel take dislodged from the Command Pod and science bay when the parachutes opened. Fernand Kerman survived and landed safely to plant this flag. He's done a lot of science, but has no way of getting home.

He'll be rescued at some point but I don't have a ship capable of getting the job done just yet.

Awesome.

Well, I finally did what needed to be done, and switched out for a nuclear engine.

Made a huuuge difference.
Duna with its moon Ike

However, slowing into orbit ate up all my fuel. So, instead I started aborting that and trying to get Jeb home instead. That's when I noticed....

I DIDN'T CONNECT THE DAMN OUTSIDE FUEL TANKS TO THE INNER FUEL TANK WITH HOSES...I SWEAR TO GOD THESE KERBOLS ARE WORTHLESS!

Would have totally landed and gone home if I had done that. I'm beside myself and will not attempt again until this weekend. Jeb, after spending 30 years of his life in space, and suffering from one of the most disturbing examples of gross incompetence ever; decided to blow himself up somewhere just beyond the gravitational pull of Kerbol. He will be missed.

Yeah, when I landed on Eve it was pretty laggy. Once I get into space, it's fine. Duna wasn't too bad either. But there is some lag.

I can pretty much get in to orbit no problem but getting to the moon is a challenge. I can never get the maneuvers just right and always end up in interplanetary space chillin or crashing back down to Earth.

The maneuver nodes are your best friend for that. Once you have an encounter, wait until you're at your lowest point in the encounter (Periapsis) and burn retrograde. That will get you into orbit with the moon.
