With MLK Day being in January, I think the United States government should officially change black history month to January.

Or better yet, simply add January, keep February, and start off every year with the first 2 months being Black History Months.

What say ye?

It wouldn't bother me. Black history month doesn't fall onto the radar much outside of some commercials. That's not to say it isn't important, but I've got bigger fish to fry and I learned a ton in the history courses i took in high school and college.

For the record I don't really care about November being Native American month, or May being Asian-Pacific American Month or Hispanic Heritage month which spans from sept. 15th to oct 15th. Let everybody have a month or two.
I'm more worried about other stuff.

I would be in favor of that. Three more days in most years, plus a holiday in the mix. Great post! Up vote!

It shouldn't be denoted period, let alone given another month. It just adds to the race wedge

I don't think it's necessarily "ours" to give. It has no significance to most people so if they want to say the entire year is theirs then im cool with it. Only idiots get offended.

Having said that, the more they try to seperate themselves from other races, the further they get from actually being equal.

ALSO, People shouldn't need a month to be reminded what "their people" did. Most blacks don't even care. Especially the newer generations. If you're truly interested, then research it or study it yourself. Teach it to your kids. Cool. But do it year round. Why have pride for one month then forget about it the rest of the year. Bc with most people, that's how it is.

We don't need black history month, period. Just like we don't need Hispanic, Caucasian, or Asian history month.

I would be against it. Blacks have gone to severe extremes to claim Africa as their homeland and even integrate it into their classification of race, African Americans. If that is the case, why in the hell would we celebrate it here, shouldn't it be celebrated on the continent of Africa?

But as far as any holidays/pageants/organizations that do celebrate anything "black", it needs to be a law that something "white" should be created as well..Wouldn't that be equal rights?

Morgan Freeman hates black history month and I like the way he speaks so I'll go with his opinion.
If your race was sold out by your on kind on your home continent, sold into slavery, freed by a different race, and struggled ever since would you want a whole month a year reminding you?
Although history itself is important, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Native Amer months just call to attention differences that should go to the way side.
