Losing a closer game on their home field is better than being bitch slapped in our own backyard on a national stage.
How do you know 9-5-11 would've been close with Lee throwing a pick every 3.5 attempts?

Got nothing to do with 1-9-12.
You'd have preferred LSU lost with Lee, than win SEC, or NCG for that matter, with JJ.
Surprisingly, you don't seem to like Jennings either.

No one is going to convince me something didn't go down before the NCG, because that was a totally different LSU team.

No, it wasn't. I really don't get how people think the BCSCG was any different in scheme than the other games from 11/5 on.

THINK about it...

At Alabama, Lee threw a pick and looked shaky early on. Les inserts JJ and goes away from the passing game. What occurred next would be the game plans for the Arkansas, UGA and BCSCG games. Why people can't seem to remember the game plans for those 'other' games immediately preceding the BCSCG, I can't figure.

The game plans were set up like this:

1st qtr Run the ball.
2nd qtr Run the ball.
3rd qtr Run the ball.
4th qtr Run the ball against an exhausted defense, score, profit.

If you remember the first game against Bama, it took until overtime for Bama's defense to tire. Les approached the BCSCG the same way he approached the Bama game after pulling Lee, the difference was that Saban was ready for it this time and was able to keep his defense off the field a little more and keep them fresh for the 4th qtr.

Half time scores:

With 5 seconds left in the first half, LSU trailed Bama 0-3 in the 11/5 game.

With 5 minutes to go in the half vs Arky, LSU was down 14-7.

At the half vs UGA, LSU was down 7-10, their only score came on a 70 yd punt return.

At the half in the BCSCG LSU was down 0-9 to Bama.

People look at the 21-0 score of the BCSCG and seem to think Bama scored 3 TDs on LSU. They didn't, it was 5 of 7 in fg attempts. In the November game, Bama was 2 of 6. Bama didnt' score a TD until 4:36 was left in the game which was basically out of reach due to them hitting on the 5 fgs. The BCSCG didn't really play out that much differently than the first game, except for the 4th qtr and the fact that they were actually hitting on their FG attempts.

So true. Stick us in the BIG 12 (or, hell, the SEC east) and life would be good!
With all of the recent success of Bama they only have 1 SEC championship in the past 4 years. Auburn with 2. And us with 1..

emains the biggest travesty in BCS history. The one time that the media, and more accurately - a small faction of "Human Poll Voters and Coaches" decided for themselves who would be in the NCG - by voting Oklahoma State """" FIFTH OR SIXTH """"
Had they voted OSU 2nd or 3rd, like the other voters - Alabama would not have been in the NC game.
That, plus Saban influencing the voting by lobbying for bama at the SECCG (why was Gundy not allowed to lobby for OSU?) was digusting.

There was no precedent for a do-over. Michigan was not given a do-over vs Ohio State in Jan. of 2007.
All OSU had to do was beat former Oklahoma in the big 10 CG, which they did - by FOUR TOUCHDOWNS, and they would have been number 2 - ACCORDING TO THE POINT CALCULATION SYSTEM OF THE BCS.

But no, the 3rd place team in the SEC (behind LSU and Georgia), who lost at home, was given a do-over.

Amazing.

The way Jefferson played on 1/9, we still would've lost to Okie st.

Oh, don't give me the race bull shite.

I'd preferred to have lost the regular season game and won a BCS game (sugar bowl) than be embarrassed on 1/9. sorry.

Because Bama couldn't do jack shite on offense and you honestly believe Lee would've kept throwing a pick every 3.5 attempts? come on.... Lee was playing lights out that year. No reason to believe he wouldn't get it going.

It wasn't. The players looked uninterested and lost.

It was a different tam than I had seen play all year.

This is what boggles me though, CLM didn't think the great CNS would be game planning for a month and a half for this and have it defensed down to the last tiny detail? Well we saw the result, our D played lights out even with AJM making unbelievable (and lucky) over the shoulder throws and completions several times but the O was stymied for same game plan! Why not throw them off a bit and try a different scheme, oh well over it and was the most incredible season my lifetime for sure!

Sure, now imagine if Les came out of the month break and went into the BCSCG with an entire new offensive approach and had Lee just slinging the ball all around the place. And now imagine Bama returning two of those passes for TDs on their way to a blowout victory. What do you think the fans would have said after that game? They would have wondered if Les had lost his mind.

In a month? Not enough time to devise an entirely new scheme. Hell, Saban didn't come into the game with an all-new offensive gameplan either, even though he only scored 6 points in the first game. Les figured you dance with the one who brung you. He devised a scheme that played to his team's strengths. It was a good enough game plan to win the SEC championship. It just wasn't enough the second time around against Bama. It happens.

Either way, Les was going to be crucified by the fans.

After he saw us getting skull fricked, why not try to shake things up by putting Lee in half way thru the 3rd qtr?

Let's not let him off the hook completely here. Saban whipped out the big dick and has owned us the last 3 meetings. Where's Les' response?

You don't understand the game plan. The plan is to use the running game to wear down the opposing defense by the 4th quarter. You won't know if you're successful until into the 4th quarter.

What you don't want to do is panic and start getting out of your team's comfort zone by suddenly going to a HUNH, spread passing game. Right up until the TD with under 5 mins left in the game, it was only a two score margin.

Here's Lee's line from the first game:

J. Lee 3/7, 24 yds, 3.4 avg, 0 TD, 2 INTs, 7.7 QBR.

2 interceptions in only 7 passes thrown. Don't be mistaken, while LSU's defense was great in 2011, Alabama had a great defense that year as well, and Lee was no Mettenberger.

No one understood the game plan for this, if you are happy with this you can't be for real. Was a total abomination to anyone with eyes watching. We were in no comfort zone at any point in this fiasco. Up until the TD it was painfully obvious we were going to do Nothing with that lineup, there is no way to defend what happened there, and believe me I have been a Tiger fan since birth (1956) and seen every game since the 60's, just say was a great season and move on!
Although, it is curiously similar to the 59 season beating #2 OM and of course we lost at Tenn after and weren't playing for the greatest team status ever but then lose 0-21 to OM the rematch would be interested to hear any old timers remember this game and what happened and was PD critized like CLM was for it?

EXACTLY.

LSU had a GREAT season by wearing teams down and blowing them out in the 4th (or OT). It worked perfectly for 13 games.

yep, I was screaming to start passing when it was obvious the running games wasn't working, but I had also screamed when, as you note, we were only up by a few, or losing, in earlier games.

Miles is VERY stubborn, which is a big reason we went 13-0 and a big reason we lost the BCS.

LSU and Miles had one of the best year's ever and I am proud as hell.

That's bull shite. LSU would have run it down their throat and wore them down to pull away in the 2nd half. Like they did in every single game that season.

LSU couldn't run the ball on Alabama in either game so it threw off what LSU did to everyone else all season.

ask the top La recruits that are now leaving the state? Perhaps the record number of players leaving early?

Excuse all you want, but LSU lost something that night

re: Scout Ranks Greatests Seasons

The real difference on 1/9/12 was that the special teams and defense didn't change the game dramatically like they had all year.

Prior to the game, the punt team had surrendered 6 yards the whole season on punt returns. That means Maze's first return gained seven times the number of yards we had given up all year. On the reverse side, Mathieu wasn't able to get the game-changing return like he had in the Arkansas and Georgia games.

Additionally the defense didn't force any turnovers. McCarron made some clutch passes, when he had thrown 2 INTs in the first game.

The last gasp was Jefferson failing to see a wide open DeAngelo Peterson on the 19yard completion to Beckham. A score at that point early in the would have been big, making the score 7-12 and backing Alabama off its overaggressive coverage schemes (which was leaving players open betting that Jefferson couldn't find them--a pretty good bet after-all).

The 11 team thrived on the quick strike, and Bama was having nothing of it.
