caldwell did just fine with an established QB... 90% of NFL hires are guys who have failed before.

The thing with Caldwell is he actually makes good late game decisions, mainly not kicking FGs

The guy was 26-63 at Wake Forest.

He was then somehow handed a team with Peyton Manning. The one season he had to coach without Peyton he went 2-14.

His offense this season was 25th in the NFL. Behind Oakland, Washington, Buffalo, and STL.

He has been handed everything in the NFL and has somehow turned each opportunity into shite.

You're counting Wake Forest?
"Handed" (hmmm) everything by Dungy, while Whisenhunt must have done the hard work under Cowher, I'm sure.
Baltimore also won the superbowl. San Diego had a good offense for years.
Arizona had Curt Warner....they fell off as soon as he left.
Caldwell's NFL record 24-22 (including a semi-intentional tank season to get Luck).
Whisenhunt: 45-51
Both have 2 division titles, although Caldwell got is in 3 seasons, not 5.
Both are retreads.

Yeah because that was kind of one of his 2 head coaching jobs...

A fricking monkey could coach a team with Peyton Manning to the playoffs.

28-77 as a head coach without Peyton Manning

As coach of the Colts:

14-2
10-6
2-14

As Ravens OC:

24.9 PPG (split with Cam)
20 PPG

Like I said, give him something good and he'll turn it to shite.

Yea, Wake Forest mostly in the pre-BCS era(an era which gave a huge bump to mediocre-bad programs in major conferences)is real comparable.

Whisenhunt only won with a great QB. Fell off without him. Not as great as Manning, obviously, but he wasn't winning as much either and had years with Warner where he didn't win.

I'm skeptical of both of them. Retreads. ike Whisenhunt was some hot commodity.

His predecessor at WF won 45% of his games

His successor at WF won 48% of his games

Caldwell at WF won 29% of his games.

But yeah his longest coaching stint of his career shouldn't count for anything

28-77 as a head coach without Peyton Manning. What a terrific coach.

Ummm.. no. Whisenhunt took over a bad/mediocre team and made the good and helped get them to a Super Bowl. Caldwell took a pre-built juggernaut led by Manning and wwithout him was an utter disaster.

Caldwell is like the Larry Coker of the NFL.

Wow what a bad hire.

This is hilariously bad. They should have gone outside the box and gotten a CFL coach or college coach. They have serious offensive firepower.

Get a great OC or offensive coach and break the bank on a defensive coordinator.

Caldwell is an offensive guy and he sucks at it. He has never been a successful coach EVER without Peyton Manning.

WTF Detroit. This is the worst hire in the NFL in years.
