Alleva over ruling a guy Cam hand picked pisses me off. Can't make him feel good about how things are run around here. Especially when you're bitching over a few 100k.

I don't buy it, especially if Grimes ends up being the guy. Grimes would almost assuredly cost more than Washington.

Why didn't Malzahn keep him on?

Auburn's current oline coach is J.B. Grimes. Was with him at arkansas state where they set a school record of 481.8 yds per game.

Hokie fan checking in here...Grimes salary seems very low due to Auburn paying mainly for his and Loeffler's salary this past year....

But it is no way close to what you guys were paying Stud...

Do you know at all what Washington was looking for? We always hoped that he would come back to VT for coaching...

We were paying Stud OC money (unfortunately).

Asked an Auburn friend about Jeff Grimes. His feedback:
quote:

On his coaching ability....
Auburn's OL played well for him first two years (2009-2010), but they were mostly upperclassmen inherited from Hugh Nall. Then our OL got soft, especially last year (2012). But our coordination sucked last year and the rest of the team was soft too. Could have been Chizik.

I heard rumors that Malzahn and Grimes didn't always see eye to eye. Grimes has/had young children and allegedly didn't want to put in the kind of hours Gus seemed to want.

On him being considered a good recruiter....
Pretty sure that is true. Grimes is a very likable guy. He recruited Greg Robinson, Reece Dismukes, Chad Slade, Shon Coleman, and Brandon Mosley.

Mosley probably says something positive about Grimes' coaching ability too. He played as a big DE/TE in JUCO and showed up in the Spring of 2010 and became a starter at RT on our BCS championship team. Then the next year he was drafted in the 4th round and has been starting at RG for the Giants.

Not sure about this, but I had other concerns. I like the guys' credentials - but, I was always concerned about zero big college recruiting experience (Hartford and USD).

Grimes, on the other hand, has recruited Texas, out West, and 4 seasons at Auburn. If the money is right, I can see him staying a few years.

Jeff Grimes is a fantastic OL recruiter, but a pretty average (at best) coach IMO... he is partly responsible for all five starters on AU's current OL that lead the free world in rushing last year... but four of those same five played the 2012 season that was a total dumpster fire.

with Cam has OC and LSU's ability to attract OL talent, Grimes will do a solid job
