Try the entire administration, faculty, all the way up to the University President.

The Kearney case, if it ever goes to court, will break Texas.

That's some funny shite right there that both Texas A+M and the University of Texas hired Black coaches with decent (But not phemononal) records/credentials and grossly over paid them 5 Million smackers per year just to prove to rest of the country that they're not a bunch of racists!

Watch what happens at A+M this season minus JFF and still no defense.

Too early for Strong, but I'll give that three years.

Well here is the village idiot racist again. We know, we know. They can't play QB, OL, MLB and they can't coach. Right? Did I miss anything? You are a sad excuse for a human being. And you wear your racism on your sleeve for all to see. Too bad racism isn't a banable offense here.

What a clown show.

The Strong hire lacked any pop from the get-go and quickly fizzled when Red declared it a bust followed by UT's entire DL class de-committing the next day.

Stong is a good coach, but these people here in Austin were sold SABAN IS COMING (I live 5 min from campus and know exactly what it was like - checkout clerks at HEB would strike up conversations about Saban to Texas). It was like they'd collectively won the lottery. But they ended up getting a guy who, while competent is a looooooooong way from that kind of excitement. Longhorn media tried to spin it, but it failed. Compared to the names that were touted, Strong is "meh" to the fanbase and recruits.

So, when word was circulating that Strong was bringing his no-name OC from L-ville, who'd been fired by Nebraska for being too boring, the "meh" upon "meh" general disappointment was just too much for the fanbase and big boosters, who revolted.

Now they are in the position of walking around pretty much telling their coach "we all find you to be 'meh', so hire someone exciting". The guy was shot in the back out of the gate by Red and is now being emasculated by Patterson who is telling him, not only that he can not make all of his own hires, but also that he has to hire someone to make up for himself!

Tejas football-the mother of all dumpster fires.

What will the excuse be if Charlie doesn't win big enough in his first year? Lack of talent? Schedule too tough? Fan support?

This will be fun to watch.

That will pass when the hangover goes away.

Stupid thread that tells nothing.

THere is so much fail at UT right now.
First off, Charlie Strong is a damn Fine HC and Redd should keep his mouth shut. Second, if UT boosters frick this up even more, the chances of a decent HC ever coming to Austin will be slim to none.

I don't know, I think there will always be a line for that job.

What might be learned that Mack changed the job and you have to be a political animal to survive in Austin.

year 3???

he better be contending for big12 title by year 2

Texas will have 100x more talent than anyone not named OU. If your not competing for a Big12 title by the 2nd year, your not doing a good job and wasting talent.

No excuses at Tejas, to not compete, immediately near a top level.

Yeah but the message from the NFL for years was the previous regime put out soft players, while Charlie Strong is known for being tough on players and throwing them into "the pit." Who knows how many will blossom in that environment, or how many will give up. That can be a big factor in this.

He needs time to change the culture.

I think Patterson was brought in to change the "buddies with the BMD's" culture. Mack was too busy schmoozing and being a CEO to coach. Strong is Patterson's hire and I'm pretty sure he will do what he can to ensure Strong's success. I think Patterson was sending a not so subtle message that he is the new sheriff and it's no longer business as usual as far as the big cigars are concerned.

Strong will be fine if he wins. Frankly it will be refreshing to measure a coach by wins rather than how good of friends he is with the right boosters.

But can you really measure a coach by wins if he isn't allowed to hire is own staff?

Upper echelon coaches already didn't want in the middle of the political mess at UT (that's why they ended up with Strong). If the PTB at UT submarine Strong, they sure as heck won't want any part of it.

Let me see the whole staff before we start accepting the internet rumor that Strong isn't allowed to hire his own staff. Some Texas sources have largely debunked this and said it's his show to run. Strong's been given the rope, we'll see what he does with it.

That was Alabama's problem until Nick Saban probably walked on in back in January 2007 and told em all to shut the frick up and give him the keys to the university.

Fwiw...looks like Texas has hired Tommie Robinson from USC as RB coach and Chris Vaughn from Memphis as DB coach. Sort of out of left field if correct

probably a good analogy

boosters at major programs with a history of success seem to lack an appreciation for how fragile success can be. you can't expect to run a top notch program when you don't accept the necessity of letting coaches coach and keeping meddlers at arm's length.

maybe they'll have to suffer a sustained period of mediocrity before the lesson takes. Texas is a program with more inherent advantages than anyone but even they require a good coach and a good foundation of respect for that coach

Good post. Now, just who would he need to hire to satisfy the masses, quiet the grumblers, and get things back on track? Or is it already a marriage that needs annulled?

This is all they really need. Texas has the ability to get terrific talent. They just need someone that knows what to do with it.

Don't feel bad for him. He got PAID!
