He will not have the gravitas to get done what he wants to get done.

It has nothing to do with him being black (actually, at Texas, it might). His resume is not impressive enough to get people to leave him alone and let him do his job.

Saban had a track record he established at LSU so he could take control at Alabama. Strong doesn't have that. What did he really win at Louisville? Not much.

This could be a train wreck. He is a good coach, but if boosters interfere and don't let him do what he wants, it could derail the whole thing.

I already feel bad for him. ALL of the disfunction is going to come out now.

Texas needs to figure out that it's not actually different than any other major program. The boosters need to stfu

I've said for a year now that Texas wouldn't ever get Saban for this simple reason -- Alabama boosters are preoccupied with winning, while Texas boosters are preoccupied with nonsensical BS (i.e. access).

Texas is the Dallas Cowboys of college football.

Funny when I asked if Texas would hire an African American I was dismissed as a trouble maker. Credit to them they did but how the boosters treat him we shall see.

It took the 2000's for that to change at Bama from the 2nd part of the above statement. Texas will probably never get to the stage that they'll give complete control to a coach, like needs to be done at a program like the Bama, Texas, USC and the like. Too many money men wanting to feel big with access.

It could happen to Alabama and it wouldn't break my heart.

Or more directly, HE isn't enough of a splash hire to move their needle, so they want splashes on his coaching staff. The big problem is he wanted to bring the UL offensive coordinator, and they all want someone who can run a spread or can recruit in Texas.

Coach Strong is actually growing on me some- how is he taking this new job and using it how he see fits. Texas fans expected him day one to start flipping Baylor and A&M recruits, and instead he is going back to those Florida high schools where is already a known quality and trys to sell those boys on his new team.

Time will tell if Texas fans demand not only who recruits for him, but where he recruits from. Some really like the idea of their program showcasing the best of Texas high school recruits to the country, but Charlie's easiest path for now is just bringing in the Florida boys (who seem to shun the idea of state loyalty). Time will tell if fans care more about stars than local representation.

They definitely aren't giving him free reign which makes it pretty unfair to him if he fails. For instance, this tweet from his LB coach at Louisville, Brian Luc Jean-Mary

quote:

@luc_brian 20m
Interviewing at the University of Texas for the LB job. Waiting to see if Coach Petrino will offer me to stay.

That's right, he's interviewing for the job. WTF? Does anyone think Strong is running the interview? That would be awkward. "So Brian, tell me about your experience at Louisville?"

Strong either wants him or he doesn't. Sounds like he wants him and someone else needs to approve the hire of a LB coach.

Thing about Strong is that he doesn't play into any of that bullshite.

And Texas is absolutely full of said bullshite.

I have little doubt that Charlie Strong would be successful at Texas if it weren't for the fact that their boosters will get in the way.

I've been saying since 2010 that Mack Brown wasn't the problem. Now I'm being proven right. No coach will have success there because of their boosters and their political involvements.

he should've had this kind of stuff ironed out in his contract. if not, his agent is brain dead. If it is, he needs to call his lawyer and call these Texas bigshots' bluff.

Strong has been the HC at Texas less than a week. You guys might want to revisit this thread in a week or so. I'm pretty sure I will.
