I thought Kiffin was a douche and still think he is a douche.

He's the biggest douchebag in the history of the SEC (at least coaching). Possibly the biggest douchebag head coach in the history of football and I'm not exaggerating. I'm open to nominees for a bigger douche if anyone can name one.

However, if anyone could take that POS down a peg and handle him it's Saban. Could be fun to watch.

bama fans will defend anything and everything.. but i do agree that this will be either really bad or good. not like middle ground.

The thing about Kiffin is that everywhere he has gone outside of Oakland, the offense's have been pretty legit.

His overall teams may have been mediocre, but they all were good offensively until this past year. The question will be how he handles his ego while there and how much he'll push the envelope in recruiting where Bama already pushes it as far as it can go and then some.

I mean we recruit against Ole Miss, UT, Auburn, LSU. What's another shady recruiter?

I'm a little hesitant because our fan base isn't going to give him any rope, if he doesn't perform well he'll be crucified, but if he puts up an offense he's capable of he'll have resurrected his career.

Lots of risk/reward on this one

Legit? Here are USC's rankings in total offense for every year Kiffin was there, including this year:

2013: 42nd
2012: 38th
2011: 33rd
2010: 28th

They got worse every year.

I'm just not seeing the risk. Does anyone honestly think Saban lets this guy anywhere near a microphone? Or to sow discord or let him disobey? I can tell you that ain't gonna happen.

Alabama will still have a top ten defense. Alabama will still be able to run the ball. At worst you are looking at another 11-2 season and you can Kiffin and get someone else. If that's the downside risk then why the hell not?

So you can an offensive coordinator whenever you don't win the National Championship? Fantastic way to attract top notch coordinators.

I think it's funny that Bama has just had 2 of it's best offensive year's ever. They lose a couple of games because Saban's defense took a step back. Then, they fire probably the best OC they've ever had and hire Lane Kiffin?

I look at it as low risk actually. He's gone in a few years whether he is fired or not. With the traditionally weak Alabama schedule (A&M takes a huge step back now too) you can just out-talent most teams.

When did they fire Nussmeier? He left for another job, and perhaps with the belief that if he improved UM's offense, he'd be a better candidate for head coaching jobs.
