Well I hope he fails, but not sure he will. We'll get back to this in three years

his undoing, could be his demeanor. he's very abrasive, especially with fans, boosters, and local media.

That could be a bad combination for some of the oil barons funneling money to Tejas.

i say the jury is out and let's see how good he is. there are factors that say you are wrong; his recruiting accuman for example. what he brings to tejas right now is a refreshing of the program which had grown stale and many top recruits were shunning them. bring in new faces, new and better defensive coaching and find a damn qb worth a damn and tejas is on the board again. other than their early games, they were a competitive team. i think the biggest problem they have right now is the team has an entitled attitude; strong needs to do what saban did and get rid of the problem players and find one's that want to compete.

The best hire under the circumstances. The people they wanted like Saban and Dantonio said "No Thanks".

I don't blame Strong for taking the job. He gets good pay, a strong recruiting base and all the money in the world for the football program. But 9 wins a season won't cut it in Texas.

I think he could win it all given the positives that Texas has. But the expectations are so high anything less than making the four team playoffs will be seen as failure.

No one knows for sure, but I tend to think the opposite. He is a good coach and recruiter. I think he will win there.

That said, I flat out do NOT expect him to be the first QB off the board once the NFL gets a tight look at him in the combine.

Well I guess its a good thing that college coaches only need their quarterbacks to kick arse in college right? The guy isnt coaching in the NFL, he is a COLLEGE coach. You win in college and you are good to go because thats what your employer wants you to do.

I also find it hilarious that people knock the guy for having a good qb. That to me is a good coach when you can find really good players for your team and win. Hell if he has shitty qb's people would rail on him because he couldnt evaluate players right?

I'm not a Strong fan, but he did pull UL out of the Kragthorpean suck pretty quick. Granted he did it by making them Miami in a lame duck conference, but he's at least seen some success as a HC. It's puzzled me how UT's stable of 4 & 5 star teams can't tackle or field a QB that doesn't look & play like a stoner. I'd bet there's at least a better effort from day one.

If Lou Holtz thinks he's a good coach

And Steve Spurrier thinks he's a good coach

And Urban Meyer thinks he's a good coach

And he's proven he can recruit Florida and Georgia

And he's proven he can not only win BCS bowls, but win them big (including against SEC)

...maybe he's a good coach.

He's not a good coach, He's a GREAT coach. He will definitely win at Texas. As a person that spent 4 years with him in college and seen the way he coaches and recruits first hand, I prayed that the U. of Florida had the courage to hire him as our head coach after Urban. He will bring the best athletes you have seen. He's done it everywhere he has been. His track record is as good as any. Those that say he wont be successful are people that have had no contact or have never worked with him. I will say this, Texas got unbelievably better today and those in the Big 12 better get ready!

I said in an earlier thread, would like to see him post Bridgewater at UL, but that isn't happening.
Not really sure what to think as to whether Texas made a good hire or not.

Does everyone that says he's a good recruiter realize that Clint Hurt isn't going to Texas with him?

Strong will fail at UT because frankly, I kind of view him as today's Curley Hallman.

Hey, I'm not a big Strong fan either, but let's settle down here a moment.

Curley did not ever coach in the SEC before coming to LSU.

Strong spent 11 years as Florida's Defensive Coordinator.

Strong has 31 years spread over 5 or 6 different football programs, including the NFL.

When you look at the man's experience, all you can say is Hallman couldn't even be Strong's caddy at the pro-am open.

I'm just not sure Strong has the charisma to hobb nobb with the Texas money people, but hey, for $5 million a year, he can hire a PR firm and learn really fast.

I feel for the guy, he just left a good job to wake up in a self absorbed, dick slinging, shithole of a program. Texas is like the fat girl in the bar that thinks she bears a strong resemblence to Brittany Spears.

If he does end up failing at Texas it aint gonna be because of a lack of talent. Before you know it Strong is gonna lock up all the big talent in Texas and continue to pluck top recruits out of Florida. Good God man Texas talent combined with Florida talent. That is going to be a lethal 1-2 punch. My prediction. He is going to eventually put together a team that is going to rival the NFL talent that 01 Miami had, and you aint gotta be Nick Saban to win with talent like that and I guaran-damn-tee you that he is a better coach then Larry Damn Coker.
