OB please restore my sanity.

(I know thedice20 had a thread on this a while back but he wont text me back to tell me if it got fixed )

Deep freeze is plugged into a regular outlet in garage.

GFI in garage with nothing plugged in keeps tripping, causing the deep freeze to stop and some of my kitchen outlets to quit working.

In a perfect world I would just pop the GFI plug out and install a regular plug, but something tells me it wont be that easy.

Probably because the entire branch circuit goes thru the GFI, thus it trips even though nothing plugged into the GFI receptacle

Does the tripping coincide with rain? You might need to reseal your outdoor outlets connected to that fuse. Happened to me at my rental house.

I'd check the other outlets to make sure they are sealed off from weather/moisture, if that doesn't work then you could install a larger breaker.

GFI outlets do go bad from time to time. Might as well switch the sum bitch out and see if it works. If it doesn't, bring in it back for a regular one. If that doesn't work, there could be a short, or the breaker could be bad.

I think outside needs either a GFI or a covered outlet

My Xmas lights make my garage gfi trip every year. I probably need to relocate the plug during the holidays or I will lose meat.

The Ground Fault interrupter is probably in series with the outlet that the freezer is on. Never ever hook a fridge or freezer to a GFCI.

hit the test button on the GFI and see if the power on the outlet goes out, if it does, you will need to either dump the gfi or wire the outlet so it doens't get gf protection.

(you can do this by moving the wires up on the gfi.
