I have not overclocked it. I don't really know how and I don't want to screw it up.

What did you replace the 690 with? I think mine has 4GB of DDR5 ram in it. This is from my order confirmation email I received when I got it. ASUS GTX690-4GD5 graphics card - GF GTX 690 - 4 GB

the 4gb are split between both gpus.

Its not really 4gb total. The 690 is a single card with 2 680 chips on it, so each 680 has 2gb. The vram doesn't combine, its just a selling point for retailers
