At 5mm plus, ellis won't just be a bench bat. At least a platoon.

I like. Can't be worse than what we've had AND it finally provides some consistency.

1B- Tex

Regressed every year he has been in NY, I still think a healthy Tex is better than any other option we have though.

2B- Roberts/Johnson

This will either be pretty decent or really bad.

quote:

SS- Jeter/Johnson

I won't speak poorly of Jeter. I refuse.

quote:

3B- Nunez

I can't stand "Nuny". When he was in the minors it was "meh bat but skilled baserunner and super slick fielder". Now 4 years later it is "meh baserunner. meh bat. LOLZ fielder."

He'll be more of a bench bat, it's Wongs full time job to lose.

Cardinals love Wong about as much as Taveras, as do Mo.

Will only be a platoon if Wong allows it.

Hell by the All-Star break we may have almost entire IF on disabled list again

Tex seems to be about a .250 hitter with 20 home run power now, he needs to get on whatever Ortiz is taking. Jeter I have no faith in him staying healthy right now. Not sure how he will hit either at this point. Roberts can be good or another Hafner like signing and well you covered Nunez

If he has a full season healthy, I think he can still give you 30-35 and he still plays a good 1B.

Yup. It is kinda sad watching him. I'm not totally counting him out though. If anyone can bounce back at his age, it is him. In 2012 he was 8th in the league in average at .316 and led the league in hits with 216. I wouldn't be surprised if he came back and had a ~.280/.330 season.

For $2-million, a warm body for 100 games would be nice at this point. ANYONE is a downgrade from Cano so it will likely be magnified, but I don't expect much there.

I can find at least a LITTLE upside with every other position except 3B. Nunez just sucks.

I think the worst part is the fact that we have virtually nothing in the farm to help out. Plenty of OFs and Cs...even some decent arms, but nothing for IF.

Next years FA class will be weak as well
Ben Zorbrist
Bonfico
Lowrie
Then players with option like Weeks, Rollins, and Hanley if Dodgers don't lock him up (which they will)

At some point, the Padres will trade Headley. When that time comes, Cashman better be ready.

Meh, Headley will be 30 this year and has only had 1 really good season. He gets on base at a really good clip but only 1 season (the year he hit 31) where he hit more than 15.

I think a Johnson/Roberts platoon should be pretty solid. From a counting stats stand point, you're looking at 15HR/60RBI/15SB... which is pretty solid at 2B. Those numbers are pretty safe projections and at a fraction of the cost to likes of a Omar Infante.

I can see why Tampa couldn't trade Price
quote:

When the Tribe talked to Tampa Bay, names mentioned by the Rays were Carlos Santana and Danny Salazar. I was told those two were starting points, and the Rays also wanted some top minor league prospects. I heard Francisco Lindor’s name also was mentioned.

Shields deal really spoiled them last year, will be hard to top that one for a superior pitcher in Price.

Yankees sign Matt Thornton to a 2 year 7million deal, no bad but he is 37. Less than what Logan got

Especially with him not being open to signing an extension. Teams would be better suited swallowing a Cliff Lee contract and giving up a lesser package.

Sucks that Sanchez is the only Yankees prospect worth half a shite, though I think he can be really good

Yankees stacked at catching prospects, they were semi-prepared for Posada to retire.... The rest of the core 4 not so much.
