Why only limit it to 9 years? Did Saban not have close games here? Why is this supposedly only a Les phenomenon?

Well, because Nick Saban is not currently the coach of LSU, nor will he be coaching LSU in the bowl game. Therefore I'm looking at the history of the guy who will be coaching LSU in the bowl game to base my prediction upon. Why would I look back to Nick Saban or any other previous LSU coach to form an opinion as to what I think might happen with a Les Miles coached LSU team?

so you just ignore the many blowouts we've had over the last nine years and form your opinion with one eye closed. seems reasonable

Wouldn't it have been easier to say that most college games are competitive into the fourth quarter, instead of trying to single out a particular coach at a particular school by referencing a specific time frame?

They CLM lovers actually support the OPs arguement, the team that he gets paid $4.5M to coach and is captain/skipper of played up to AU, ATM, UGA, Gumps 1st half etc.,Thus they play up and down (see Furman, Ar-k, OM, etc.) to the competition. And please not the CLM doesn't play mantra, this team reflects their highly paid coach. That is not a championship team trait but is what it is and is the reality. This game will be another no doubt, but Tigers will be favored and should prevail albiet in a close game!

All games are games in which Les plays down to the competition.

A solid, 4-quarter performance is all most of us want to see out of Miles. Seems that's typically been the issue lately, with the exception of the A&M game.

Only clueless clowns are going to be more concerned with the margin of a victory than they are with the victory.

After nine years at LSU Miles leads all BCS teams in wins. A point of excellence which far surpasses this margin of victory or playing down BS.

Talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees.

No it's not. You want 60-7 games against almost everybody, and wins against everyone we don't blow out. That is the ridiculous expectation.

This year, the only game you can really say "wow Les, shitty job there" was OM, and even then a large piece of the blame goes to Mett and his 3 derp INTs. UGA was healthy when we played them, and Bama we got out depthed, both being on the road no less.

No I look at this:

2005:

Close games in the 4th: ASU, UT, Fla., AU, Ala. Ark

2006:

Close games in the 4th: AU, Fla, UT, Ala. OM, Ark.

2007:

Close games in the 4th: Fla., UK, Ala., Ark. AU, UT

2008:

Close games in the 4th: AU, SC, Ark, Troy, Ala.

2009:

Close games in the 4th: MSU, UGA, Fla., Ala., OM, Ark., PSU

2010:

Close games in the 4th: UNC, WVU, UT, Fla., AU, Ala., OM, Ark.

2011:

Arguably the best season in LSU history (for which Miles should get a ton of credit)

2012:

Close games in the 4th: AU, Fla. SC, A&M, Ala., OM, Ark., Clemson

2013:

Close games in the 4th: TCU, UGA, MSU, UF, OM, Ark.

So you see, my prediction isn't based on any blind hatred of Les Miles (which I have none), but on past results. I guess if you throw in the blowouts against non-BCS schools, and teams like State, Vandy, UK, then you may have a point. However I look at this year's Iowa as a mid-level SEC type opponent. As such, I expect it to be a close game in the 4th.

Do that for just about every program and you'll see that most games are competitive into the 4th. That's the point. Acting like it is a Les only trait is beyond stupid. I kind of feel bad that you wasted your time typing all that out.

Why should we blow them out? Their defense is solid, they can rush it and defend the rush. If we turn it over and let them grind, we lose. We are playing a freshman QB. Folks and their false expectations make for fun in game threads!

90% of the games you listed are top tier schools....were you expecting blowouts?

should the fans of the schools you listed be pissed at their coach because they were in a close game with LSU?

I'm not even going to bother looking at who else you claim to be close in the 4th quarter if you call this close. We took a 12 point lead on the first play of the 4th quarter and scored 21 more points after that to dismantle MSU by 33 points on the road in the SEC. That is not a close game.

Let's face it we just always seem to play crappy against Arkansas whether it be Les, Nick or whoever. Maybe senior day has something to do with it. Get all caught up in the hoopla and forget about playing football. But in reference to the statements being made on this site it would seem that most people think that Les had never won a bowl game and that they were all close. Les happens to be 5-3 in bowl games and 2 of the losses were that 19-17 loss to Penn State in the slop (that field played right into Penn State's hands, if played on a good field that team wouldn't have been able to stay on the field with LSU)and last year against Clemson 25-24 when we couldn't make a first down to seal the deal and than Chavis decided to play prevent again, just like the last minute of the Alabama game. 4 of the 5 wins have been blowouts '05 Peach 40-3 against Miami, '07 Sugar 41-14 against Notre Dame, '08 Chicken Bowl 38-3 against Georgia Tech, '11 Cotton Bowl 41-24 against A&M and you can really also include the NC game against Ohio State which was 38-24 and a lot worse than the score. Do we sometimes play to the level of the competition, of course, what team doesn't. The ones I remember the most are the loss to UAB and another was the Capital One Bowl loss to Iowa. Who coached those teams? None other than the little God, Mr. Nick Saban.
