Jimmy Graham on last play -- as safety

I have no doubt about The Jimmy's ability to stop a last second ATL score, just wondering if this scenario is something that would ever come up in practices? And is "safety" the correct term?
Forgive my ignorance about football practice, I'm female.

Excellent question. My wife asked the same question. I thought it was pretty smart of her to realize he was a big advantage.
I bet you're cute too.

The thought is, Atl was going to throw up a Hail Mary.
Who better to defend that than a 6-7 TE thats straight up beast mode at a jump ball?

They had time for one play. The Saints thought they were going for a hail mary. He was back that because he's the tallest guy with the most hops.

Safety is a term for last line of defense. So yes it's the correct term. And yes, I'm sure he practices that play.

That position on the field is the safety position, regardless of who is in the position. Just like when they move Graham from TE to the slot receiver, he is a "receiver" because he is in that position.
I am sure they practice it. Coach knows what he is doing and will never try something for the first time during a game.

There was some concern that The Jimmy might be rustled, but so long as the Falcon's are 2-9, God's work is being done.

yes most teams do it if they have a tall wr or te.
The lions have done it with calvin johnson, and the vikes and pats would do it with moss.

quote:Absolutely they practice it. Just like they practice onside kicks when they put the "hands" team out there...guys like Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston are counted on in onside kick situations to help recover the ball.

And yes, "safety" is the correct term there.

My thought was Matty Ice was never going to throw the ball down the field

they have to practice this--work on JG's defensive technique to avoid PI penalty that would kill the game. (another reason to get rid of potential 100 yard penalties).
