Cool. You agree with him wasting a timeout on the play that was automatically reviewable then because that was his gut instinct.
That makes you a sheep.

I'd be interested to hear what WikiTiger, bbap, or GregMaddux think of the issue. Those are the only 3 posters I can think of who I have any faith in for logical thinking.
Anybody know if any of them watch Saints games?

I am quite sure that Payton will be more mindful of how he uses the timeouts going forward, cause he gives 2 fricks (but only 2) what you think.

I don't know how you can't understand that your argument goes under by conceding this. We allowed them to have a better option than they otherwise would have.
We did not "allow" them a better option. We coerced them into calling a pass, making it easier to defend. Playing into your opponent's wishes is never a good option, but it was pretty much their only option.

We achieved their first goal for them by ensuring they would be able to burn our timeout and the 2 minute warning in their first 2 plays. They were then able to focus solely on their second goal.
Exactly. If you know what your opponent will do and how he will do it, you're going to win a lot of football games.

"None of you agree with me, therefore you're stupid because I'm right and you're wrong"
What a petulant child.

Do you? Have you listen to CSP tell why he did that? Bottom line is he has thought about the situation more than you, he knows the players on a personal level and as a good coach would, probably studies and learns about his players.
When you watch the awesomeness of the superdome hit its peak, know that he is the conductor of all that. He obviously knew what he was doing on top of having faith in the team.

Not exactly. You guys are failing to reasonably simple logic, therefore you're stupid, I'm right and you're wrong. The number of you is hardly surprising considering the intelligence of the average person and the propensity for irrational thinking a mob mentality tends to bring out.
But you can join the others in this thread and keep believing that discouraging the other team from doing something by offering them a better alternative is a good thing.

Yep, he obviously knew what he was doing when he wasted a timeout on an automatically reviewable play.
That's the last I'm going to address of any "Sean Payton obviously knows what he's doing" posts. He obviously doesn't in all cases. He showed he didn't even know the rules of the game, so I'm not going to just assume he has a good understanding of game theory.

strategy is not your forte is it?
Allow me to clue you in...
In a strategic confrontation, such as chess, war, or football , the single largest advantage one side can have over another is foreknowledge of their opponents plan of action. No matter what other advantages or disadvantages might exist...if you know what your opponent is about to do, then you have the upper hand.
This is what CSP bought with his time out. Not the 1 fricking second you seem so enamored with.

hey, if thinking this makes you feel better, then more power to you. thinking you know better than a head coach who has never showed anything but the best intentions for the team is laughable. does he make mistake? sure, but in no way does it qualify you to think your smarter.
if you were so smart and knew more than the coach, you'd be coaching and not on a message board with the rest of us "stupid" people who are incapable of understanding reasonably simple logic.
or let me sum it up this way.
The Coach does the best he can, he is better than you, go choke on a bag of dicks, DiaF and go frick yourself.....oh and I am not mad at all, i just don't like your uppity smug attitude on here.
good day ma'am.

Wrong. Knowing somebody will seize a better option that you afford to them does not render an advantage over not giving them that option at all
If you are playing chess and you put your king in a shitty position, you know your opponent will come after it. Just because you know your opponent is coming after it doesn't make it an advantage. It just means your king is in a shitty position and both you and your opponent know it.

Nah, I'm just tired of people citing Trent Dilfer and Sean Payton's expertise in game theory. I started this thread to maybe get some discourse with somebody who is able to correctly frame the situation and still, on page 11, find myself wanting.

thats like saying that the saints were in a shitty position because they knew that the niners will pass?
peyton is a genius, and we won the game. if he didn't call that timeout, then we would not have had as much time to drive down for the gw field goal

What a ridiculous straw man argument.
Assuming we don't line the entire defense up 25 yards down the field, then we have a large advantage in the situation in question.
