Its that time of year again. Cooler weather really has me craving an Old Fashioned.

4.5 rye
1 simple
4 dash angostura
Flamed lemon or orange peel

Old fashioneds should never include the following: cherries, soda water, jack daniels

I usually make one about once a week regardless of season.


Pretty standard recipe except that I use Jack Daniels rather than traditional bourbon and I over pour the JD.

-Teaspoon of sugar at bottom of low ball glass
-three dashes of bitter and swirl the glass to dissolve sugar
-add peel of orange and a single cherry
-add ice
- three parts whiskey
- one part soda water
-stir

4 oz. glass
1 sugar cube
1 cherry
1 slice of orange, peeled
7 dashes of Angostora bitters
1 tablespoon water

muddle

fill glass with packed crushed ice

2 oz. Bookers

top with cherry

Squeeze orange in bottom of highball glass, 3-4 shakes of bitters, add 1 part sugar water, 2 parts makers mark, full with ice and top with cherry

had my first old fashioned 2 nights ago at radio bar and it was pretty good. i have no basis for comparison though. apparently they make them pretty well over there so i gave it a shot. definitely need a beer to sip on though while im drinking it.


very good drink though
