What should I expect? I know the usual comebacks, but, how friendly are those Ole Miss folk?
TIA

Pretty friendly. Not as friendly as LSU fans. It will be very crowded.

do not show anything that resembles alcohol on your person. A cop will take it away, especially if you're wearing an LSU shirt

hopefully you enjoy it more than I have. OM people are the most unclever bunch I've ever been around. Instead of talking about the game, or how their football team might win, they'll generally resort to personal verbal attacks.

It's quite pathetic

It's been a while since I was there, but I didn't have the same experience as those who posted above. I had a great time and found the Rebel fans quite nice. Food was very good, although not the same kind of cooking you find at an LSU tailgate. The alcohol flows freely and the scene will keep your attention. China, chandeliers, prom dresses everywhere. They say at Ole Miss, "We may not win the game, but we've never lost a party." That says it all.

P.S. Make sure you know where to park. It's a long haul from most of the parking to the grove.

It blows. It's like a giant outdoor wedding reception with chicken ginger platters, stale crackers, and archaic drinking rules

Do NOT, under ANY circumstance, walk around with an open container.

I found it to be extremely crowded. Felt packed like a sardine. I didn't get the allure of famous "Grove" other than that it's a tradition. Under the tents, out of the tents, it was chock a block. The people were nice as far as my experience, but I didn't think it was all that. It was more of a pain than anything else.

The Walk Of Champions is a nice tradition, but the "walk" is narrow for a bunch of big old football players trying to get through a packed Grove. When I was there, the players didn't look too excited to be doing it. It was nothing like what our team does at LSU. That's probably why I was underwhelmed.

Eh, a few cool people. A frick load of undue snoberry and snarkiness. Really crammed spaces. Tons of hot girls. No music. No one cooking. Overall - MEH.

Very crowded, very preppy, and very boring. It is the most overrated campus experience in the SEC to me but people seem to love it.

Just did some research and found this page on Ole Miss' website.

quote:

The university expects everyone to behave responsibly and to show respect for others and for university property. University Police have been asked to focus their enforcement efforts on illegal and abusive drinking. Beer is illegal under county law, and thus prohibited in the Grove. Although liquor is legal for people 21 and older, distribution without a permit is illegal, and any alcohol left unattended or in plain view will be confiscated.

Hard liquor is okay, beer is illegal?

No grills or hot BBQ but over the top catered food. Lots of chandeliers and nice people that spent way too much time getting dressed for a sporting event that doesn't involve professional horse racing.

Its pretty overrated, in my experience, particularly the grove. I know its a source of pride for Ole Miss, but its really just a hectic crowded mass of khaki and plaid douches. Imagine if you forced most tailgaters on LSU's campus into the quad and outlawed open flames - that's the grove. Cramped quarters and pre-prepared food (lots of KFC) served on tables covered with fancy tablecloths.

As far as the poeple, I got no attention from the Ole Miss fans either way. They seemed to just ignore us for the most part.

The best part were the port-a-potties that were labelled "Hotty Toddy Potty"...that's just funny.

The Grove is like LSU tailgating all forced into one big grass field so nobody has any room to move

ETA: it's fun though, all these people hating on it just don't like that another school knows how to tailgate

Grove is alright, it just gets super packed. I'd rather our tailgating, but whatever.

Yes, they have hot girls.

The Grove was the most grotesque disappointment of my entire career as a traveling LSU fan. Many of the fans don't even erect their own tailgates. It appears to be done by third party contractors in advance of gameday. The place was a ghost town of unoccupied folding chairs, empty white tents, unwatched TVs, and effeminate floral centerpices until a few hours before kickoff. My LSU friends and I commandeered some of the derelict tailgates. No one said a word.

Now, the women of Oxford were anything but a disappointment. The single most beautiful southern belle I have ever laid eyes on was a bartender at a small dive behind The Library. Overall, they have the second best road beauties in the SEC, just behind UGA.
