Pretty weak roster then. Dr Mario and especially Dark Pit? Are you fricking kidding me? The only person in the world that wanted Dark Pit is Sakurai himself. Can't he listen to his fans and make a better game instead of doing stupid crap like not giving Ganondorf his own move set or just keeping Mewtwo, who is certainly in the Top 3 favorite Pokemon, out of the roster? It'd be ridiculous if he kept out the Ice Climbers for the Wii U just because the 3DS couldn't handle it.

Which is likely the case. He stated that he wanted the rosters between the two games to be equal, because he doesn't want the 3DS version to be viewed as "inferior" to the Wii U version. Yet, he apparently has no problem with shortchanging the Wii U version due to the limitations of the other system.

The decision to bring back Dr. Mario and not Mewtwo is confounding. Lucina and Dark Pit are just fluff characters that were included to augment the roster size.

I like the new roster

I think most of the complaints about "underwhelming" is because we knew most of the newcomers before today, and the unlocks were mostly returners, and the leaks as well

Had we only known about 16 characters before today and then seen the wave of new characters come in, it would have been more exciting

But we have a good roster. Mega Man, Pac Man are good 3rd party characters, then innovative newcomers like Bowser Jr., Duck Hunt, Wii Fit Trainer, and Villager.

My only complaint is too many Fire Emblem/Sword characters. They are too generic looking

I have a feeling that outside of Shulk this will be my new favorite. The moves look awesome, honestly. I'm pumped from a gameplay perspective, not a "cool property" perspective.

But they are the only classic group of character, like real fighting games. I like their presence. I do think that having the clones, or very similar characters are a problem. I'm a big Ike fan though.

Yeah, as if 3DS players would riot on the streets if it was put on the Wii U version. That's just pathetic that he's actively letting the Wii U version be worse than it could be due to the 3DS's limitations. He's apparently ok with making a mediocre game. He better get his arse on differentiating the WiiU version from this stupid crap.

I do agree with this, I am sad to see Ice Climbers go, I understand why because of the technical limitations, but why not put them in the Wii U version or come out with DLC for them when that new 3DS comes out with more CPU power

Ice Climbers were my most used character in Melee

Minus the Ice Climbers doesn't mean a mediocre game.

And honestly, what limitations don't allow Ice Climbers? I'm confused by that.

I think they were terrible characters honestly, and too weak once and if one was knocked out. (Everyone has their favorites and not so favorites, though, so there's that.)

Even more disappointing is the fact that the 3DS version only has 35 stages, and less than 26 are actually new.

The game has fewer total stages than Brawl, and fewer new stages than Melee.

This game is a raging disappointment. I hate the character choices and the fact that all this is being leaked makes me want the game less and less. I'm gonna stick to brawl.

I don't have a problem with leaks, any game like this, where characters are the MAIN attraction, is going to be leaked. This isn't a 60-hour single player game that can keep the ending unknown through release.

BUT their release schedule is stupid. First, 3 months between 3DS Release and Wii U release? Dumb. 4 Weeks between Japanese release and everywhere else, equally dumb.

Should have been world wide all in one go. If Sakurai wanted all this to be copacetic, with games mirroring each other keeping stuff from one game because the other can't handle, then you HAVE to align release dates. If these were two different versions of Smash, then sure, do this. But if it's supposed to be one seamless version essentially, it's really weird to release it like this.

Raging disappointment though? That's a bit of a stretch. We may lack stages, but we're about to have the most unique characters in a Smash game yet, that's exciting.

I don't think the roster completely sucks, but it does have some baffling inclusions and exclusions.

Here's whose on the current roster that would be out:

Dark Pit
Lucina
Dr. Mario
Duck Hunt Dog (I'll reserve my judgement, but the fact that he's a playable character and not an assist trophy is insane)

Add:
Ganondorf (new moveset)
Ice Climbers
Mewtwo
Squirtle
Ivysaur
Snake
Black Shadow (give him Ganondorf's old moveset)
Kat and Ana (could be a fun addition to the roster, and Wario I think has had enough games to get another player)
Dixie Kong
K Rool
Krystal
Ridley
Dark Samus
Tails
Knuckles
Robotnik

So that would be 62 characters and I think a stronger line-up.

Something tells me that they'll have a Snake DLC pack though. Doesn't seem as if it would be hard to get Konami in on this.

Something to do with the 3DS hardware. Sakurai said he had a hard time getting characters with more than one fighter (ie: Ice Climbers) to work, so he let's it go to the detriment of the Wii U version instead of just the 3DS

The only one I disagree with is Duck Hunt Dog. I'm pumped for him, I think that's a super creative inclusion, and I don't understand the backlash. The rest I completely agree on, mostly because they are all essentially clones and I thought we were done with that. Especially with the palette swapping. They should all be palette swaps and nothing more.

That's just too much. At some point, there are too many characters. Too many Pokemon. I think Rool is interesting, but another big heavy? Dixie is a let down for sure. Cranky, given the Tropical Freeze inclusion, should have been in as well.

You can't do THAT many Sonic characters until Nintendo straight up owns Sonic. I would rather see:

Master Higgins from Adventure Island
Simon Belmont (which is a HUGE oversight for me, all this time and no Simon??)
Captain N (again...would be so perfect. I guess Miis kind of fit.)
And a couple of other retros

I guess that's why I like DHD.

And Splatoon seems to be a shoe-in next go round.

Here's an idea I just ran across from Reddit: It looks as if even with the completed roster that there are 4 vacancies in the 3DS line-up. What if the leak on the previous page is still correct, and Mewtwo, Ridley, Dixie, and Chorus Men are actually in the Wii U version of Smash Bros, but will be DLC on the 3DS. Seems pretty retarded to release the handheld game 3 months before the main attraction and we already know the complete line-up. In the end they'll have the same line-up, but Sakurai may have held back a few fighters so the marketing train wouldn't completely die today.

Just came here to post this.

Certainly wishful thinking, but would be smart marketing. With a release 3 months ahead they need SOMETHING to keep people excited. It's a good idea, a good theory, let's hope it's reality in some form.

And the leaker of that info still insists it's correct, even after this:

quote:

frick it, I'm just gonna put it out there:

(And I'm not saying this to troll fans or keep the hype up or whatever.)

I have a source who has been right about previous leaks and has worked on the European localization of the game. He says he has definitely seen moving models of Dixie, Ridley, Chorus Men and Mewtwo in the game and he's still confident that these four characters can be unlocked by linking the 3DS version to the Wii U version.

Now, I know how outlandish this sounds, and being a game journalist myself I'm taking this with a grain of salt myself, but we're talking about the guy who told me about the Bowser Jr. alts immediately after the ESRB leaks and has never been wrong about other stuff as well. Plus, the whole connectivity thing makes far too much sense, if only to get fans to buy both versions. *insert itprintsmoney.gif here*

Again, I swear on my soul that I'm not trolling. Time will tell. I thought Ridley was never gonna be in, but hey.

And that leak seems to have been pretty damn accurate. I'm holding out hope, since it does make sense, and really seemed dumb to me in the first place that they were making a Smash Bros for the 3DS with the exact same roster.

Plus, I don't think anyone has posted a trophy shot of any of these 4 characters yet, and surely one of them should have popped up by now.

The Ninka leak was 100% accurate.

The 4chan leak that piggybacked off this leak, however, is still questionable, and it seems to be the original post that generated much of the discussion about the "final five".

With that said, I still think the Gematsu leak was legitimate... and the only character that has yet to be validated from that leak are the Chorus Kids. Given that the CSS on the 3DS version still looks quite awkward, even with the full roster unlocked, it certainly seems plausible that there may be additional characters remaining.

The DLC for the 3DS would have to be free, and it would need to be released the same day as the Wii U version to avoid any controversy.

This. The WiiU version is the bigger deal, and if there is a bigger roster yet to be revealed and they are keeping versions accurate, then this HAS to be the case.

If Nintendo requires connecting versions to unlock, I'd be upset.
