Mustaine was such a drunk that other drunks wanted him gone?

It was more that Mustaine is a strong personality and kind of a dick (he would do shite like pour beer all over Ron McGovney's bass and punch James in the face when James kicked his dog). Dave wasn't going to lay down and roll over for Lars, and that combined with his prickly and sometimes violent personality was the real cause for his dismissal.

Burton I assume had some demons too

Not really.

Mocking the Black album is stupid. It is awesome.

It's junk. shite songwriting for the lowest common denominator. It's as bad a step backward as anything they could have possibly done. I'll never forget how crushingly disappointed I was the first couple of times I listened to it.

Burton "not signing off on it" would equal them not growing as a band.

Seeing as they'd grown as a band by leaps and bounds between the first three albums, that statement makes no sense at all.

You can't be all heavy all the time. You can, but you would be Slayer who are not nearly as relevant historically.

You can 'not be heavy all the time' and still write good songs, which unfortunately they didn't.
And all heavy all the time has sure worked out fine for many other bands, and not just Slayer.

Had they not gotten rid of mustaine they may never have gotten started.

Yeah, 'cause he just faded away didn't he.
Megadeth has never stopped making great music. His catalog of awesome tunes dwarfs Metallica's after ...And Justice. Hell, he's put out more good albums in just the last decade than Metallica has over their whole career.

Had cliff not died they may never have gotten the work done that they did.

If you mean working to appeal to the masses with dreadful, simplistic bullshite, I agree.

These 2 quotes show me you are just a "Dave guy" as do the rest of your points. Which is cool too. To each their own. I just never liked his voice.

And again anyone who bashes the Black Album is just doing so because they "sold out". Which I never agreed with. They were just too good for people to catch on finally. And musicians have different musical tastes than the rest of us. They always look for weird shite. Everything they covered they made better. Breadfan (who the hell is Buggee) and Turn The Page? Covering turn the page shows he can sing. Maybe he wanted to sing and not just scream all the time. I am sure it is helpful during a show to have a Turn the Page or Nothing Else Matters to give the voice a break and keep playing.

You're probably still mad that they cut their hair.

I like what you have to say!

Which brings up another great topic: Who got the last laugh? Mustaine or the guys in Metallica?

I'd argue that while Metallica has enjoyed more commercial success, that Mustaine has been an artistic force in the genre and probably garners more respect within the community. And that probably gives him the last laugh.
