What did Memphis do to get better?

Better coach

Mike Miller signing = one of the best shooters in the league, depending on his health

Kosta Koufos trade = a legit back up center finally

Nick Calathes signing = a legit back up PG finally that can allow Conley some time off the ball

Dave Joeger is a damn good coach and was the designer of the defense we have been known for the last few seasons. Plus the players love him

What is the argument against Mike Miller being a good pick up? Houston and OKC both pushed hard to try to get him to sign with them

Kosta Koufos would most likely be the starting center for over half the teams in the NBA and started 70+ games for the Nuggets last season

One of biggest issues in recent seasons was the lack of quality play at the back up PG position. Nick Calathes has been one of if not the best player in Europe the past couple of years and was a first round player coming out of Florida. Mike Conley has a very improved jump shot, which he showcased playing mainly at the 2 during Team USA camp. Nick Calathes with his size and passing ability allows Conley to play some 2.

I think Calathes is going to struggle mightily on defense in the NBA. He might be the most unathletic player in the league.

He can really pass and has great size, though.

The Rockets are literally better than the Pels at all five spots.

To the OP,Houston should be a top 4 seed in the West. Harden is an unselfish player.

Regarding Memphis, if they actually start playing Ed Davis(who is better than most people realize), whom they traded for, then that alone makes them better. They have a top 20 player in Gasol (but don't tell that to br70816) and a top 10 G in Conley. There coach is more of a strategy guy in Collins. Spacing of course is their issue.

Related:
If Rudy Gay' shooting woes were really caused by vision problems then Gay was an idiot not to get surgery earlier..but Memphis works better without him. However I see the Raptors being a fun team to watch this year.

Back to Rockets:
Chandler Parsons, if he improves only marginally compared to last year, then the top 4 out west should look like this in some order:

Spurs
Rockets
Clippers
Thunder

with GS & Grizz right on the 4 seeds tails.

Center: Dwight Howard/Omer Asik > Jason Smith
Power Forward: Terrence Jones/Dwight (he will play 4 when Asik is in) > Anthony Davis (this season)
Small Forward: Chandler Parsons > Tyreke Evans
Shooting Guard: James Harden > Eric Gordon
Point guard: Beverley/Lin > Holiday

So my guess is that you are going to argue point guard and power forward. With Dwight at PF when Asik is at Center, you can't. And point guard may be a wash, but the Lin/Dwight pick and roll will destroy. And Beverley is awesome. See playoffs.

One of the main reasons Lionel was shown the door. The front office seems to love what Ed Davis can do.

It is quite the feat that he played at such a high level as a blind person....

What is up with people just saying no. It's message board. Do you have some evidence?

I'm gonna have to agree here. Holiday/Vasquez is better than Lin/Beverly IMO
