What can the Moneyboard tell me about Safeco automobile insurance?

Just got a notice in the mail that my insurance carrier is now part of Safeco and my policy will be through them. Stay put or time to shop around?

I currently have a car in a body shop and have Safeco insurance. My repair has been in limbo for 2 weeks while I'm fighting them trying to use aftermarket parts vs. OEM parts. It sucks, will be switching as soon as it's settled. My body shop guy said if I have to use aftermarket I will have to take the car somewhere else because they wont use their part list due to liability issues and Safeco is saying I will have to pay for the difference in the aftermarket and factory parts.

They have a really nice baseball field in Seattle.

Most companies only use aftermarket parts unless you buy an endorsement for original parts.

I've been with SafeCo for the past 3 years for my home and auto insurance. I have no complaints.

Safeco is a good company. They are owned by Liberty Mutual. (I assume you had America First?)
Liberty Mutual's independent company was America First, who wrote personal lines and commercial insurance through independent agents. Liberty Mutual bought Safeco, and merged Safeco and America First. America First will strictly be commercial and Safeco will strictly be personal lines.
They are a very good company to deal with. As for as the OEM parts, most companies do that unless you purchase the endorsement. Safeco does have the endorsement available for OEM parts. Call your agent and see how much it is.

Liberty Mutual is a nightmare right now on the commercial side everywhere except property coverage

I heard they were kicking around the idea of leaving (LM, not Safeco).

I had state farm and switched. My premium went down dramatically. Only claim I have filed is windshield chips, which are free of charge. State farm stopped coverage on chips before I switched.
For those reasons I am happy. State farm always took care of me when I filed a claim without questions, and so far safeco has done the same.

I had them for a while, but they kept raising premium approx $100 every 6 months. I have no accidents or ever gotten a ticket. I moved to progressive, but they are starting to do the same it seems. I feel like all these companies just low-ball you to get you in then steadily increase over the next few years.

i have safeco for home and auto. it was significantly cheaper than state farm when i got it. haven't had any claims so far so i can't comment there.

I just had to file a claim for a hit and run on my truck after someone backed into me at Perkins Rowe. Safeco sent me a check within a week with no questions asked, then they sent me a second check after someone in my household accidentally threw the first one away, again with no questions asked. I switched from Statefarm as well because the premiums were so much lower.

you can always shop but safeco is good, they have a lot of quality endorsements you can add. Make sure you have 0 glass deductible. compare apples to apples in coverage if shopping. Safeco offers a sizeble discount for the pay in full discount but what's cool is they let you pay half now and half at 6 months and still get discount.

Not for me today. Bitch arse adjuster won't answer the phone on a first party property damage claim she should have handled weeks ago.
