They really seem to be pushing the shite out of this stat. But I don't know why I'm supposed to care about it.

I don't even know what it means, and don't really care about finding out what it means.

None, because it is an objective stat. Any stat that requires "film review" and objective analysis is not a mathematically sound stat, but a biased stat.

I think it is comical everyone shits on this stat. It obviously gives you a much better picture of a QBs performance than the regular passer rating. They put in a great deal of thought into it and it is very logical, it incorporates such factors as 3rd down conversions and RZ efficiency plus how good of a defense they are playing against.

Please tell me how this is some stupid meaningless stat?

It is a hell of a lot more meaningful than the traditional passer rating stat. It takes into account sacks, rushing plays, how important a pass was (down and distance, how close the game is, what quarter it is). A QB gets fewer points if he throws a 5 yards pass that goes for a 50 yard touchdown versus throwing 50 yards in the air for the touchdown. Is it perfect? Certainly not, but it is better than the alternatives.

I always point to the fact that since 2006 (which is how far back they have available on their website), the leader in the QBR metric was first-team All-Pro and won the MVP when it did not mistakenly go to a running back (Peterson in 2012 is who I am referring to here, but Tomlinson did deserve it in 2006 for scoring 30 touchdowns).

I will admit that I might be biased since it rates my favorite QB, Peyton Manning, so well. Going back to 2006, Peyton has 5 of the top 10 QBR ratings in any one season, including the top one overall, and that is despite missing out on the year of the QB in 2011 and having one less season than everyone else. Peyton is once again dominating in 2013, a full 4 points ahead of second place and 10 points ahead of third place.

quote:

Rodgers, whose Packers won at the Georgia Dome, completed 26 of 39 passes for 396 yards and two touchdowns. His Total QBR was 82.1.

Tebow, whose Broncos lost at home to the Chargers, completed four of 10 passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. And he ran the ball six times for 38 yards and a touchdown. And his Total QBR was 83.2

The most ridiculous part is how it counts the 4th quarter way more than any other quarter. Because a passing touchdown yields more points in the 4th quarter than any other, right?

It's a bullshite stat because it gives more credit to quarterbacks who get behind and win than quarterbacks who never get behind and win. Drew Brees played lights out and led from wire to wire this past Monday, and I don't see why a quarterback gets way behind before pulling out a squeaker in the last minute should given more credit than him.

Keep in mind that the assholes at ESPN consider LSU to be the 2003 "co-champions" despite the fact that only one crystal ball was awarded, not two.
