don't know why it's so hard for people to see how government dictated pricing fricks the whole system. If the minimum wage was $200hr, would everyone be rich? If so, why not raise it? shite would cost more, but hey!!! We'd all be rich!! No.

Why not? Hell, if you want people paid a living wage, don't f$%k around. Everybody could live well on $200hr. Many would make more than their bosses. That would show them.

Could we really retract it tomorrow though? The dollar is so inflated at this point that I don't see how we could get rid of it in any kind of fast manner.

Yes. People will work for only what they think is fair. Nobody is forcing anyone to take subpar pay. For the record, my lowest paid employee makes $10.50hr. Will 100% paid insurance and profit sharing.

What about the ones who can't get what they think is fair though? Extra load on the welfare system and such.

Don't get me wrong, I'm against it. I think you should get paid what you're worth. I just don't see ditching it as a very good idea today in the grand scheme of things.

Seriously? Anyone who has had dollar bills shoved under their mattress for 20 years DESERVES to take a loss.

If raising it to $10 is a good idea, why not higher? What's the magic number?

Why?

Because its just not very smart to hold on to a depreciating asset for that long in any significant amount. You'd never find a mutual fund, for instance, whose sole investment strategy is to stuff U.S. currency into a vault.

Its also just plain bad for the economy for people to horde cash. Cash is supposed to be something that you hold onto temporarily, between your income and either goods, services, or investments.

Minimum wage is a price floor.

Now I know not a damn thing about economics or any such things, but I understand that chart.

You'd swear it was impossible to understand by most.

Awesome. Single minimum wage workers in CA with no children will only be $1.20 away from not having to sponge off the government just to have a roof, clothes, and food.

Why should it be the business's job to pay someone more than they are worth?

States are a governance and economic laboratory. Libs argue that fixed higher working class wages are a good thing. Cons say they aren't. Ultimately if higher wage translates to better work-product, improved job-satisfaction (as with Germany), California's move would be a good thing.

Unfortunately, the gimme-gimme-GiveItToMeNow Californians involved are much more likely to to change nothing in their work-product or attitude. Interestingly, as those same individuals are more likely to patronize minimum wage funded outlets/stores/restaurants, they will be disproportionately hit with pass-thru costs of the new $10 minimums.

But where will they work when the businesses leave?

No, it isn't.

If nobody saves, banks will have no capital to back loans and there will be a credit freeze. Good luck starting a new business or getting a mortgage or auto loan. Unless you want them to take on absurdly high leverage ratios, which will lead to another 2008 financial collapse.

And don't give me "Citibank sat on the bailout money". There are community banks and credit unions and that's where people should be putting their money.

Never the politicians look at it as a "vote control" to play for the simple minded.

That's the part they don't get, businesses aren't going to stick around in a state forever where they have to constantly worry about rising costs because of the direction of the government.

quote:

Single minimum wage workers in CA with no children will only be $1.20 away from not having to sponge off the government just to have a roof, clothes, and food.

They'll be right back where they are today with the cost of everything rising with the increase in their wage.
