Agree with Kasparov to a large extent but the fact that Putin was able to state his opinion through the NYT does speaks well of freedom of speech in the U.S.

Exactly, Gary was right on every point except the criticism of the NYT for giving him a voice because of what just happened.

. . . the thread seems to have drifted from your apparent intent.
There's definitely been some Putin dickriding the past couple of weeks, but I really just appreciate that a Russian is willing to publicly shite on Putin. I realize that not all criticism of how Obama is dealing with Putin is support for the Russian, but there do seem to be some poliboard man crushes on the guy. He is ultimately a pretty bad dude under all the charisma, which I'm sure most understand.

Stupid analogy, and probably also a factually incorrect comparison. Kruschev ate Kennedy's lunch in Vienna.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah . . . . . I'm with you CT.

Thank God in Heaven for blessing us with a situation in which VladfrickingPutin has to save us from militant stupidity. Let's build him a full standing bronze for the National Statuary Hall Collection.

re: Kasparov slaps down Putin and NYT on Twitter

Just what happens when we elect incompetent leaders, Kennedy's Camelot was as much a fraud as Obama's rainbow land.

Both foreign policy incompetents, FDR was sick and dying at Yalta, Kennedy and Obama were just incompetents. I feel Kennedy had a worse day with Kruschev, and Obama doesn't let shite like that get him down, he is awesome and more laid back.

quote:

President John F. Kennedy was brutally honest about what would prove to be one of the worst performances of an American leader with his leading global counterpart of his time – his two-day summit with Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev.

As he drove away from the Soviet embassy with Secretary of State Dean Rusk in his black limo, Kennedy banged the flat of his hand against the shelf beneath the rear window. Rusk had been shocked that Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev had used the word “war” during their acrimonious exchange about Berlin’s future, a term diplomats invariably replaced with any number of less alarming synonyms.

Despite all the president’s pre-summit briefings, Rusk felt Kennedy had been unprepared for Khrushchev’s brutality. The extent of Vienna Summit’s failure would not be as easy to measure as the Bay of Pigs fiasco six weeks earlier. There would be no dead, CIA-supported exile combatants in a misbegotten landing area, who had risked their lives on the expectation that Kennedy and the United States would not abandon them.

However, the consequences could have be even bloodier. A little more than two months after Vienna, the Soviet would oversee the construction of the Berlin Wall. That, in turn, would be followed in October 1962 by the Cuban Missile Crisis. Already in Vienna Kennedy was distraught that Khrushchev, assuming that he was weak and indecisive, might engage in the sort of “miscalculation” that could lead to the threat of nuclear war. He didn’t know then that his prediction would become prophesy.

Are you really so stupid you can't understand that people can appreciate Putin keeping Obama from dragging us into a war and still oppose him and his destruction of Democracy in Russia?

Of course some people feel as you describe above, but even before this there has been significant man love on this board for Putin...this incident has just brought it back to the surface.

Kasparov slaps down Putin and NYT on Twitter I predict this thread will quickly fall to second page because all the Putin lovers will have butthurt.
I predict you are too big a hack to know shite. I happen to think the op is funny as shite and think the quotes are excellent. No one who thinks putin is right in this situation think he suddenly became a good guy. That's just silly bull shite guys like u throw out so you can dismiss Obama opposition.

Putin is a communist. He has said it hundreds and hundreds of times. He is also a fool and he is the leader of the most evil country in the history of the world. There is not a country IN THE WORLD with a more shameful past than that of Russia. I am not a terribly religious person, but I have no doubt that the devil influenced the formation of Russia and its hideous philosophies.

Nah. I don't like Obama but I reserve a special hatred for Putin. I have to give him credit for a stronger play than Obama this week but I will never, NEVER support him.

re: Kasparov slaps down Putin and NYT on Twitter

quote:

Putin is a communist.

I don't think he is. He is a Great Russian, he has no real political ideology except protecting Russia from others and getting rich.

The existing Communist Party leader is Zyuganov, he and the party are about the only occasional opposition to Putin in the Duma.

quote:

He has said it hundreds and hundreds of times.

He obviously was before '91, has he said this since 2000?

quote:

He is also a fool and he is the leader of the most evil country in the history of the world.

Both claims are BS,

quote:

There is not a country IN THE WORLD with a more shameful past than that of Russia.

Russia was also a victim of the USSR just like the other Republics and satellite states, Russia has had an unfortunate political hisotry but clearly not the most shameful by any reasonable standard.

If there were a Hall of Fame on TDPT, for shite threads your post would sould be admitted as soon as possible.
