you have ever witnessed in person in Death Valley?

For me, it was the 1982 Florida State game in my soph year.
The anticipation and atmosphere was unbelievable going into that game when it was announced earlier in the week that the winner would go to the Orange Bowl, what would be LSU's first NYD bowl in 10 years.

An LSU student dressed up like a 'Seminole' ran around the NEZ until the costumed Mike tackled him and broke his spear. The student section went insane.

When the first note of Pre-game was played, I literally went deaf for a few minutes. The same with the game. Martin caught 2 TD passes, one a slant in for a 28 yard TD on the last play of the first half, and DV was rocking.

Other loud crazy LSU Pregames I have seen/heard in person:

1995 Auburn
1997 Florida
2000 Tennessee
2001 Auburn
2003 Georgia
2003 Auburn
2004 Oklahoma
2007 Florida
2008 Bama
2009 Florida
2011 Arkansas
2012 Bama

If I am confining myself solely to PRE-GAME and the FOUR CORNER SALUTE, I would say that 2009 Florida was the loudest by a fairly comfortable margin.

Florida 2009. If only the game lived up to it.

Was in band for Arkansas 2011, that was also pretty loud.

My favorite while marching it is actually the Saints/Lions playoff game. That was the loudest I've heard it.

Literally my first memory at an LSU game. I was a youngster, but I definitely remember Mike scalping the Seminole. I asked my dad why the Florida State mascot would let Mike do that, and he had to explain to me that it was probably an LSU student that dressed up like a Seminole and it was not the real Florida St mascot.

My dad wouldn't let me throw any oranges.

That FSU game was the craziest pregame. LSU refused to move the game to daytime for TV. When Mike fought and scalped the Indian in the middle of the field, the crowd went crazy. Then there was the oranges. Both offenses were running wide open with reverses and long passes. LSU got ahead and a thick fog rolled over the field. That was the first time that I had seen the field rushed. The cops pulled back and defended the goalposts and beat the crap out of people who tried to get on them. Crazy game all around.

How can no one mention the '79 USC game?

quote:

"on a humid Sept. 29 night in Tiger Stadium in 1979, the Tigers put out one of the greatest efforts ever displayed in that historic venue. The crowd was so intense and so into the game that if you were at home trying to listen to the game, you couldn’t. The players wanted it for their lame duck coach. The fans wanted to see No. 1 go down. Not just any No. 1, but the No. 1 of Southern California and John Robinson and Charles White and student body left and student body right"

My first trip to TS. Sat in the student section. The oranges flying on the field was freakin awesome.

2011 Arkansas was pretty wild. Second loudest sporting event I've ever been to. I thought I was gonna be deaf when the Honey Badger ran back the punt when LSU was down 14-7.
